FBI chief who backed Lam just resigned
Via TPM:

SAN DIEGO – San Diego FBI chief Dan Dzwilewski, who was rebuked by superiors for publicly defending ousted U.S. Attorney Carol Lam, has announced his retirement.

Dzwilewski, who has been at the helm of the San Diego office since July 2003, sent an e-mail to his agents and staff Wednesday saying he planned to take a post as director of security at Sempra Energy. His last day at the bureau is to be April 30.

Some colleagues found the timing of the announcement curious. On Tuesday, FBI Director Robert Mueller acknowledged during testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee that one of his subordinates, John Pistole, told Dzwilewski that his statements on Lam were inappropriate and that he should keep quiet.

Dzwilewski had said Lam's firing was political and would adversely affect ongoing corruption cases.

1. He is free to talk now...at this point he probably has nothing to lose....
Would the Dems take care of him like the Republicans take care of their loyalists?

4. Maybe he isn't free to talk
with security clearances still in effect.
Maybe he'll be called to testify.

9. One way or the other, the word resigned should be in quotes...
because Lam herself "resigned".

2. Kyle Sampson testified today that he made a phone call
to this man, as well, to take him to task for commenting re Carol Lam. This can of worms has grown into a snake pit for the WH. It is NOT going away.

3. And since "someone" got him a sweet gig at sempra
that will be the last anyone hears from him..

Just another twirl of the revolving door between "biddness & government"..

These appointees are all of a certain age".. they have kids to send to school and pricey lifestyles to support. They may be scumbags, but their family obligation will usually trump their sense of fairplay and honesty (when it comes to the millions of unseen/unknown ordinary folks they originally swore to protect and serve)

6. It seems like it would have been smarter to >
> delay the new job a while so it didn't seem like such a buy-off.

8. Yeah. His initial remarks about Lam's ouster indicated some level of integrity.
And even these incompetent clowns would probably be more subtle about a buy-off while there's media attention on the issue.

5. Or, he is being offered huge bucks in the private sector
to keep quiet. Sampson admitted to calling FBI to complain about Dzwilewski's statement, then viola', FBI tells him to shut it.

I hope Finestein subpoenas him....it's all about Lam. Well, that and positioning loyal bushies in those places where they can most influence the 2008 Presidential election.

15. Sort of like...
the interim US Attorney that took Lams place, was offered a million dollar signing bonus and partnership with the law firm that's defending I forget who, but someone involved in the Cunningham scandal.

19. Brian Bilbray used to be a lobbyist for Sempra...
... where he just got hired.

http://www.thecoastnews.com/articles/print.php?sid=1658

Just as Brent Scowcroft was on the board of Qualcomm, where Carol Lam was just hired...

There does seem to be a pattern! Perhaps we can find some more suspicious ties!

10. Don't you think it's possible that he already knew he was about to get
this job offer, so he commented to the paper KNOWING he had nothing to lose? Perhapse I'm being naive, but instead of slaming this guy, I think it's worth a thought that he secured his own future, and decided to go public with his feelings.

I don't get the angle that some think he did something wrong.
I thought he was defending Lam and then was told to shut it.
How does that make him the enemy? A cohort?

In Edit:

My reaction to this article was that he wanted to create
distance between him and the Bush Criminals.
As in he was threatened!

in the next Democratic administration. They are getting screwed now and we should be doing everything we can to back up these courageous whistleblowers.

Obviously Democrats can't offer nearly what Republicans can and do and we shouldn't even try to compete with Republicans in that respect, but we need to at least help out somehow.

Every one of these whistleblowers are ethical and the vast majority of them are also very highly skilled in their trade.

I'm tired of reading articles on how this whistleblower or that whistleblower has been black listed by their industry for speaking out on ethics. These are really our best and brightest and we are using them and tossing them aside without even trying to help. This allows bullying of potential whistleblowers and its not very ethical of the rest of us to not try to help them out.

20. The GOP's CIA money pipeline mustn't be compromised, or investigated...
Hookergate was beginning to lead to the WH's doorstep via corrupt congressmen in the GOP and the vast amounts of money involved ... welll, that's as breathtaking as the hubris involved in the entire Octopus endeavor. Cudos to Di Fi for bringing the subject up today in the Sampson hearing. Danny Casolaro and Gary Webb will be avenged sooner or later.
