Kansas blizzard - pictures
Edited on Sat Mar-28-09 08:23 AM by proud2BlibKansan

Heavy snow and winds of at least 40 mph created dangerous driving conditions, caused multiple traffic accidents and closed roads as the storm system headed east. One of those accidents, in Marion County, produced the first fatality of the storm.

The Kansas Department of Transportation said several highways in southwest Kansas were closed because of poor visibility and blowing snow, including U.S. 83 from Garden City to the Oklahoma border; U.S. 56 from Rolla to Oklahoma; and U.S. 54 between Pratt and Liberal.

Michael Scott, National Weather Service meteorologist in Dodge City, said 9 inches of snow had fallen there by midafternoon Friday, with winds clocked as high as 40 mph.

The storm was expected to level out overnight, with the forecast in Dodge City calling for 12 to 15 inches by this morning.

“We’re hoping it won’t go that high,” he said.

1. Stay warm and safe!
We're supposed to get a lot of rain turning into sleet, ice and about three inches of snow here. Me, I'm going to be staying inside and watching the MU game this afternoon. Sorry about the Jayhawks last night, I really thought that they would pull that one off.

The good thing about this storm is that it's going to melt away pretty quickly, temperatures start to rise tomorrow and get back into the fifties and sixties by midweek.

Those darn Jayhawks. My kid is blaming the refs. :)

No bad weather here yet. Just cold.

5. The refs do seem to have swallowed their whistles,
I've noticed that throughout the tournament they've been letting them play, sometimes to excess. Like I said on that other thread, playing KU was good practice for us going up against UConn's big man. We're going to run, run, run him into the ground:evilgrin:

Well, maybe next year, Self has done incredibly well with such a young team. Give them a year or two and they'll be back to their usual self.

Just stupid weather folks.

Hey I just realized my birthday is exactly 6 months from today. So you are just a little bit older than me :)

8. I this the same storm that dropped a whopping
six inches of snow on Santa Fe early Friday morning? Completely shut down the city. They do an incredibly poor job of snow removal here -- actually makes KCMO look good -- which I find just astonishing.

9. No way
KCMO doesn't even TRY to clear snow. While here in the lovely burbs in KS, they spread sand before it even snows.

10. It's strange to me to think
that in the summer we sometimes drive across Kansas via I-70 and the temperature is often over 100 degrees and the only thing blowing across the highway is tumbleweeds.

So therefore this proves that global warming doesn't exist! Or something like that.

12. We got that the day before. Still got snow on the ground.
Denver was a mess yesterday.

But hold on. It'll warm up tomorrow. We're getting warmer today.
