Bombs kill at least 104 in Shiite areas
Multiple suicide bombers struck in predominantly Shiite markets in Baghdad and in a town north of the capital, killing at least 104 people and wounding scores on Thursday —the day that new U.S. Ambassador Ryan Crocker took office.

Two of the suicide bombers struck a market in the Shaab neighborhood of northeastern Baghdad at 6 p.m., killing at least 61 people and wounding 40, police and security officials said.

About the same time, three suicide car bombers attacked a market in the town of Khalis north of Baghdad, killing at least 43 people and wounding 86, according to police and officials in the predominantly Shiite town.

The first attacker in Khalis drove his explosives-laden car into the crowded area, followed in five-minute intervals by the other two bombers, who apparently were aiming at rescue crews and onlookers gathering in the aftermath, police said.

2. What is with the targeting of markets?
Do they think there are a lot of occupation soldiers shopping there? Or maybe the bombers think that Bush told Iraqis to get out there and shop to improve the economy.

3. Their tactic is to create chaos
It doesn't matter who their targets are.
As long there's chaos and mayhem, they will prosper whereas the occupying forces, the people of Iraq and the public opinion will, well...not.
In the end they win.

The FLN used the same tactic in Algeria.
