For people following the recent Palin meltdowns...
Edited on Fri Mar-27-09 12:03 AM by Blue_In_AK
Phil Munger at ProgressiveAlaska has a good summary of recent events. Things are getting quite contentious in Alaska. http://progressivealaska.blogspot.com/2009/03/on-20th-anniversary-of-exxon-valdez-oil.html

Sarah Palin - Sucking So Bad, She Was Keeping Alaska's Volcanoes from Blowing Too Hard - Until Today

On the 20th anniversary of the Exxon Valdez oil spill, as Redoubt Volcano threatened a long-neglected retainment dike system holding 6 million gallons of crude oil, on Alaska's pristine Cook Inlet, Gov. Palin erupted again and again about media unfairness.

Both Gov. Palin and Redoubt Volcano have been erupting periodically over the past week. The height of eruptions for both occurred Tuesday, the 20th anniversary of the Exxon Valdez oil spill, and 45th Anniversary of the Great Alaska Earthquake.

Another Palin eruption occurred this Tuesday. Alaskan progressive blogger, Linda Kellen, filed an ethics complaint against Gov. Palin at the beginning of the week. Here's Linda's press release: http://divasblueoasis.com/showDiary.do?diaryId=478

The governor, in what was perhaps an unwise move, almost immediately posted a response to the complaint at the Governor's web site's press page:

March 24, 2009, Juneau, Alaska – Governor Sarah Palin issued the following statement in response to another ethics complaint filed today. Filed by an Anchorage political blogger, the complaint alleges the governor “… improperly used her position and state resources to serve her personal financial interests by being a walking billboard for Arctic Cat ...”

"Are Alaskans outraged, or at least tired of this yet - another frivolous ethics charge by a political blogger? This would be hilarious if it weren’t so expensive for the state to process these accusations and for me to defend against these bogus harassments. Yes, I wore Arctic Cat snow gear at an outdoor event, because it was cold outside, and by the way, today, I am wearing clothes bearing the names of Alaska artists, and a Glennallen Panthers basketball hoodie. I am a walking billboard for the team’s fundraiser! Should I expect to see an ethics charge for wearing these, or the Carhartts I wear to many public events? How much will this blogger's asinine political grandstanding cost all of us in time and money?"

<snip>

Meanwhile, today, as Redoubt Volcano again is erupting and sending ash up to 60,000 feet into the atmosphere, closing airports and roads, Gov. Palin announced just minutes ago, that she has appointed one of Alaska's most cantankerous characters as her new Attorney General.

Wayne Anthony Ross, Alaska's best-known 2nd Amendment advocate, and a member of he NRA's national board, is intensely disliked by rural Alaska Natives. He has been, over the years, the most staunch advocate of the diminution of subsistence rights for Alaska Natives, to benefit mostly White urban and out-of-state hunters. Recently, Ross defended now-convicted ex-Alaska Representative Vic Kohring, in the closing stages of Kohring's battle against his Federal corruption conviction. Kohring is in the middle of the first year of his sentence.

Before that, at the beginning of the Iraq War, Ross defended a man in Kenai, up on charges for dumping water on anti-war protesters in Kenai - in sub-freezing weather. Both the Kohring and Kenai cases were taken by Ross pro bono.

<snip>

It's hard to keep up with all her scandals.

4. It continues to drop.
I think I saw a poll came out last week, but we were out of town. Let me see if I can dig it up for you because I'm kind of curious myself. She's got Democrats AND Republicans pissed off at her in the legislature.

...

I can't find it now, maybe I was dreaming it. Anyway, I'm sure her popularity here is plummeting. She has really been showing her true colors since the campaign, and they aren't pretty.

2. Good
Keep her in the spotlight. It's like looking at what you just threw up. A quick glance is enough, but if you keep looking at it, you start seeing what it really is, and you get sick all over again.

Keep talking, Sarah. Please ........................

3. Didn't she blow off a meeting today?
She was supposed to meet with Alaskan legislature Republicans and just blew it off. Her staff offered to meet with the Republican leaders, but apparently the legislature folks declined, because her staff isn't very knowledgeable. Later, when the question came up about why she didn't make the meeting, Gov. Palin claimed that it was because the Republican leadership refused to meet with her.

That went over about as well as a fart in church.

8. It's been REALLY bad since she's been back.

It's like the national attention just pushed her over the edge, because honest to God, we had no idea that she was like this. Most of us actually kind of liked her before the campaign. Either she was doing an excellent job of acting beforehand in an effort to boost her popularity, or she really has gone off the deep end.

9. Can't she get anybody to "pray with her"? Or is everyone too busy praying for her impeachment....
... which is my great hope. She's got to be stopped in your state before her fan base in the rest of the States puffs her up any more and manages to make this train wreck seem credible.

11. She's making the rounds with Franklin Graham,
getting some free publicity with her Evangelical fan base. They're passing out donated food to the same people on behalf of whom she won't accept stimulus funds.

I saw this promotional material when I was visiting an elderly relative, who was in the process of throwing away a donation solicitation from Graham's "Samaritan's Purse" charity. My relative, a Baptist who considers herself a Republican, expressed disapproval of the way they seemed to be mixing religion with a political agenda. She pointed to the picture of Palin and said, "I don't like her. Isn't she the one who spent all that money on clothes?"

15. She could care less about the Native people.
Her new appointee for state Attorney General has been adamantly opposed to rural subsistence preference for as long as I can remember. In other words, he thinks that urban people should be allowed to take as many moose and caribou and fish as the people living in the villages who depend on game as almost their sole source of food. This quote from Palin's press release announcing the appointment gives me cold chills: "He's going to work tirelessly to manage our fish and game resources for abundance through science and not through politics," which in Palinspeak means "Kill all the wolves and bears so that we're overrun with moose and caribou for the big game hunters."

She makes me furious.

16. I remember that case. this idiot who had a son in Iraq drove past
some war protestors that my mom and I would join at the borough building but they were on a street corner that day. It was very, very cold. he drove home and came back with water. He poured it on them and had someone in the car film it. The women were in their late seventies and early eighties. He actually stopped and came at them. One of the men with them chased him off and he was charged. He was convicted, the only one in Alaska to be so. The defense and defender were laughable and people were not amused.

14. Out Of Her League...
Thanks for all the posts you do to keep the rest of us up-to-date on the latest Mooselini follies.

IMHO, I think she's develeoped a love/hate complex about herself and all around her. She loved the limelight...you could see how she got caught up in her own press clipping and the cheers at those rabid rallies during the campaign. She loved all the attention and riches. She just didn't like having to work for it. She expected to use her kids as props and when the true story of her dysfunctional family life came out, then it "wasn't fun"...that people were out to get her. Or she expected that since her name was on the ticket, it was assumed she knew everything and when asked the most perfunctory questions was offended that someone had the guts to do it. Bi polar to the extreme.

If there was an example of the old WWI song, "how do you keep 'em down on the farm" is true here. Sarah Barracuda proved to the electorate she wasn't ready for prime time, yet for the fundies and other dead-enders, she's their savior and future. You can see which part of the bi-polar she believes.

Cheers...

:hi:

12. Don't Discourage Them
Can you imagine the things she'll do to self-destruct if she's at the top of the ticket?

If the radical right thinks she's the ticket, i say we don't do anything to discourage them.
