Dell gives the go ahead for Linux
Call me crazy, but I bet customer complaints about Vista helped motivate Dell. Hopefully, other computer OEMs will follow suit.

Dell gives the go ahead for Linux

Computer giant Dell will start to sell PCs preinstalled with open source Linux operating systems, the firm has said.

The second largest computer maker in the world said it had chosen to offer Linux in response to customer demand.

Earlier this year, 100,000 people took part in a Dell survey. More than 70% of respondents said they would use Linux.

Dell has not released details of which versions of Linux it will use or which computers it will run on, but promised an update in the coming weeks.

...

I took that survey. Haha 70% respondents. It was posted on fucking Slashdot fer chrissakes. I'm surprised MS cobbled together enough fanboys to get a 30% anti-Linux vote.

3. Same here
I've been in the market for a laptop for a few months, but I don't want anything with Vista on it.

And last week, my desktop fatally crashed running on XP. I had to format and reinstall several times before I got it working right, but, it's still got some quirks.

4. It's nice to have that option, if you know linux
making changes isn't as easy with linux. Try adding a wireless network card and getting it to work. Linux can have you pulling your hair out, where Windows and the card setup disk will have it connected pretty fast and easy.

(running Fedora Core 6 linux)
