Two teens cited in video torture, killing of cat

LINCOLN (AP) — Lancaster County deputies have cited two teenage boys for torturing and killing a cat, then showing a video of the incident at their high school.

Sheriff’s Capt. Ben Houchin says the two 17-year-old boys shot a farm cat they had been feeding with a bow and arrow last Friday.

Houchin says the cat survived the arrow shot, so one of the teens picked the cat up by its tail and slammed the it against a picnic table, then beat it with a log, killing the animal.

Houchin says the 14-year-old brother of one of the teens used his cell phone camera to record the beating, which was seen by several students at Waverly High School several days later.

A school counselor who learned of the video called authorities.

My cousin's wife's two brothers were caught busting up tombstones with sledgehammers in the early 80s. This wasn't the first time they had been caught doing violent things like this. They were humanely neuteredby the "system" and from what I understand it did wonders at bringing down their level of aggression.

But what to do with them?
Cruelty to animals is one of the potential indicators for serial killers, pyromania and late bed-wetting being the other two. If these kids displayed any of these behaviors, I think a psych evaluation is in order.
However, as they are more likely run of the mill jackasses, I'm wondering if something like 1000 hours of community service in an animal shelter might drum some sense and/or compassion into them.

There is no way to obtain meat without some trauma to an animal.

Is putting a crab in a coma with cold and killing it in the pot (there is no struggle as happens when placing an aware crab in) really worse than what the average cow goes through during the trip to the killing floor?

If you want to eat meat I think it's important to have experienced getting it for yourself, and that means killing. It can be done humanely though and I for one would be happy to eat less and pay more to end the disgusting factory farming methods that are so cost efficient.

I believe there is a difference in killing for food and killing for fun.
