About self-fulfilling prophecies...
Edited on Fri Mar-20-09 06:10 PM by Wetzelbill
I've caught a few bizarre GOP arguments about how government doesn't work over the years. Like Jindal pointing at Katrina as an example of it. It always seems like Republicans point to government failures on their own watch as proof that government doesn't work.

I always want to say: "Well yeah, it doesn't work when you guys run it because you suck."

So I was reading Paul Krugman's blog today and he pointed out an op-ed that has this gem in it:

"The focus on government solutions is particularly disappointing given its poor record in dealing with crises in the US and many other countries, such as the aftermath of hurricane Katrina and failure effectively to prosecute the war in Iraq."

Well again, I have to point out, just who was in charge during those government failures? A Republican president and Congress maybe? Well, duh!

See government may not be the answer to everything or even most things, but it does need to be run efficiently. It serves a vital purpose in our lives. Republicans tend to rail about the failures of government because they don't know how to govern. It's that simple. Governmental functions go bad when they're in charge. To disastrous results.

So the GOP shouldn't go around using their own failures as an example of how government doesn't work. They should just stand back and let the people who know what they're doing run it the right way.

1. does anyone remember
whether it was Rachel Maddow or Jon Stewart who said to someone in an interview "Why would you want to BE IN CHARGE of something YOU HATE?!" (of the GOP's hatred of government).

4. I can't see how they can govern
when at the very least they don't take it seriously. When they are in charge they use it as a playground for cronies. Brownie is the most obvious example.

2. Someone, Clinton? said
"The pubbies believe that government can't work and when they get in office they set out to prove it."

Methinks the people are finally awake to that scheme.
