Seriously. I am pricing different types of tumbling training mats and I run across this:

ENERGY CRISIS ALERT

'The current national energy crisis has resulted in a very short notice 50% price increase and a 50% reduction in the allocation of chemicals used to manufacture polyurethane foam. A major component of this product is polyurethane foam and the price has been adjusted to include an "energy crisis surcharge." We regret any inconvenience this action may have caused and your understanding in this matter is greatly appreciated.'

Well, it was bound to happen sooner or later I guess.

1. And strangely, only one human being in the world could be considered a nexus
between cheerleading mats and the energy crisis - George W. Bush.

And now, let's hear

The Rest Of The Story . . . . .

3. Get used to it.
We've been living in cheap energy nirvana for a long time, so it will come as a shock. Even if we started a full scale effort to develop alternate energy sources today, which we won't, energy costs would go up until, or if, the alternate sources could step in.

But, this doesn't just apply to energy. Imagine how much clothing would cost in Wally-Hell if children weren't making it. Or prison labor. Or how much our produce would cost if the people picking it were paid a decent wage, unionized if they wanted it, and work safety standards met.
