Lurita Doan.
http://www.crooksandliars.com/2007/03/28/i-dont-remember-doan-vs-rep-braley/

I found myself shouting at the monitor. At the top of my lungs. This wretched little Nazi was caught, BLATANTLY, ABSOLUTELY CAUGHT RED-HANDED, and she squirmed and dissembled and denied and felt sorry for herself. She burbled and lied like a teenager being shown surveillance video of herself breaking into the principal's office at night. 'That's not me!' 'I don't know why it looks just like me -- it's not! I swear it!' 'Why is this happening to me?'

It was an embarrassing and pathetic performance for a troubled teenager -- but this woman is no teenager; she is the Administrator of the General Services Administration of the United States Of America.

Representative Braley was remarkable in his precision. This was no fishing expedition; this was a direct presentation of damning evidence. Lurita Doan is a criminal, and a traitor to the nation. It was revealed in her posture, her face, her words, her lamentations. Braley spoke clearly and with great care, and by the time he was finished, no reasonable human being could possibly doubt that the Republican Party has committed an act of criminal conspiracy against the nation, using MY TAX DOLLARS. Goddamn them all to hell, or even better -- justice and restitution.

I find these hearings to be amazing. I've been busy, doing heavy accounting until late in the evening, and could only read brief summaries. This was the first time I had actually SEEN what Waxman is doing, and how he is doing it.

My heart swells with pride. We are in the process of rescuing this nation from gangsters. Braley's words bit like Plain Justice. I heard Harry Truman, and Roosevelt, and Churchill, and every Founding Father rising up in him. Simple. Direct. Real. The Way It Oughtta Be.

Lurita Doan belongs in prison. Alberto Gonzales belongs in prison. Republican means Traitor, and Conservative means Un-American. It's right there, on C-SPAN 3, in color, on my monitor. It is undeniable by any Honest Person.

I find myself filled with an indescribable mixture of rage, and relief, and tears, and pride.

Henry Waxman, please proceed. The cockroaches are scurrying desperately to escape the light you have turned on.

I will never forget these days. I promise to try harder, to be a better, stronger American. Henry Waxman and Representative Braley have inspired me.

I watched a couple of them and was amazed!

Either these assholes are in WAY deep, or they don't know anything about anything. Either way, a strong indictment, for SURE. THIS is our tax dollars at "work". :sarcasm:

In fact, I was so fired up by watching these clips that I called the Iowa guy - Bruce Braley - and asked his staffer to thank him for being so relentless in his questioning, and so well-prepared. It was exquisite! If you have a moment to deliver an "attaboy" or "attagirl" to these people when they dig deep and come up with gold nuggets like this, by all means DO IT! You can do it TOLL FREE, even! See the Capitol Hill switchboard numbers in my sig line below.

4. This person epitomizes characteristic # 13 of a fascist government
<snip>
The 14 Characteristics of Fascism
by Lawrence Britt
Spring 2003

13. Rampant Cronyism and Corruption
Fascist regimes almost always are governed by groups of friends and associates who appoint each other to government positions and use governmental power and authority to protect their friends from accountability. It is not uncommon in fascist regimes for national resources and even treasures to be appropriated or even outright stolen by government leaders.

44. Amen whistle
Had a hard time sleeping last night and since c-span is a bit like a sleeping aid, turned it on and there she was, throwing her "innocent" hands in the air and acting like she was as innocent as the driven snow. It took a couple of questions by Dems before the picture was clear as to who she is. My favorite speech of hers was when she tried to hide from the fact that she had had a meeting on the Hill discussing how to pump the repubs up and do in the dems in the coming election, graphs and all. She had no answer. That was fun. It sounded like the dems are not through with her as they stated something to the effect that they had a problem with her testimony and would get back with her on it!!

Her job is to approve or oversee the govt. contracts on the war, etc. Wow, one more investigation by our dems on corruption! Didn't even know about this one.

7. I read your post. It is a bizarre event in our history -- so obvious, so unabashed.
'Racketeering' is a perfect description. Braley was amazingly level-headed. I personally would have leapt over the dias and started throwing things, I think, especially at the two Dark-Hearts behind her, with their little nods and whispers -- as if Doan's answers were actual Answers, and not patently obvious lies and dodging.

They really think they can get away with this kind of crap. But anyone who sees it -- knows instantly what has happened.

Lurita Doan, Administrator
U.S. General Services Administration

Listening into the live webcast of the GSA hearings just now, the camera was down, but the audio was still up and you could here GSA Administrator Lurita Doan griping about the investigation and telling one of her people to take her glass, cause she doesn't want "them to have my fingerprints. "I have no recollection" should be immediate grounds for termination of post and disqualification from ever serving in any governmental position from there on out.

Period.

If you can't remember shit, then you forgetful fucktards better get the hell out of public (dis)service.

I sure don't want people who have serious memory lapses involved in policy decisions. And I'll bet even freeperworld agrees with that.

27. More info on Ms Doan
According to the April 6, 2006, White House news release, "Ms. Doan most recently served as President and Chief Executive Officer of New Technology Management, Inc., a surveillance technology company that she founded in 1990. She has received a number of awards for her work, including the General Services Administration's Circle of Excellence Award, as well as the Award for Entrepreneurial Innovation from the Department of Commerce. Earlier in her career, Ms. Doan was an instructor at Southeastern Louisiana University. She received her bachelor's degree from Vassar College and her master's degree from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville."

"Lurita Doan founded her small IT company by walking into a Kinko's store with $25 to print business cards and stationery. That was 13 years ago. Today <2005>, her company provides turnkey solutions including design, installation and maintenance of all secure surveillance technology currently being deployed at over 85% of all the Land Border Ports of Entry on the US-Canadian and US-Mexican borders. In 2004, Lurita's company, New Technology Management, Inc. (NTMI), will perform on government contracts valued at $214 million."

http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?title=Lurita_Alexis_Doan

In 1999, this is what her company earned:

Her tenacity has paid off. From her first $16,000 job to work on servers for the Department of Agriculture, Doan has built a business with close to $27 million in 1999 revenue. The company currently has 143 employees.

The company provides services such as systems integration, telecommunication and network services, facilities management and user support and training.

Among NTMI's major customers are the Agriculture Department, the Army, Immigration and Naturalization Service, the Internal Revenue Service, the Navy and U.S. Customs Service.

http://www.washingtontechnology.com/print/14_12/813-6.html?topic=tech_features

So shortly after Bush takes office, her company profits rose from $27 million per year to $214 million in 2005. Now let's see, where have we heard about information systems before? And isn't there a problem with oversight of these companies because they're oh so top secret?

She supposedly knows complex computer systems, and remembers the cookies on the tables during that Powerpoint presentation, yet she doesn't remember anything else about that special moment in time. With the two dark characters sitting behind her in the hearing, I was reminded of the similarities between Ms Doan and a mob moll.

28. Here's some more skinny on Doan: Article from 2003
An interesting thing I noticed was there are NO RECORDS of her government contracts!!!

WHY?!?!?!?

NTMI has been in hypergrowth mode since the September 11 terrorist attacks. The company has sprouted from one with $25 million in revenues to one with revenues of $138 million in the year and a half since the attacks. Doan, who owns 100 percent of NTMI, gets 97 percent of her work from government agencies, including the Army, Navy, U.S. Treasury, Internal Revenue Service, U.S. Customs, INS, Agriculture Department, and Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Her ability to get the kinds of contracts she has from the government, despite the stall of the homeland security bill for months, speaks volumes.

Her latest contract is a $40 million one with HUD and has nothing to do with the surveillance industry. For this contract, NTMI develops systems to manage verification for public housing applicants. The HUD deal allows Doan to diversify the business while recycling some of the same technology the company applies to border surveillance, such as wireless transmission of information from remote locations and encryption of sensitive information.

With thanks to TPM

http://www.tpmmuckraker.com/archives/002896.php
Warning, this link has been Farked so there may be delays

/Snip ... In this clip, Rep. Bruce Braley (D-IA) grills her on a PowerPoint presentation (pdf) given by Karl Rove's deputy Scott Jennings to GSA personnel in January. The slides (13 pages) detailed which seats were "House Targets" and which "Senate Targets", which states were "Republican Offense," and which "Republican Defense." After the presentation, Doan reportedly asked other employees how the agency could help "our candidates." The GSA, remember, is the government's procurement agency, in charge of almost $60 billion each year. All of this seems like a clear violation of the Hatch Act, which prohibits using federal resources to aid political parties.

Davis, in his defense of this poor, helpless woman, trying to prove, by attacking the ex-prosecutor, also a bush appointee, for his oversight of the GSA and the illegal activities going on there. This was during the next part of the hearing.
He took out his anger and frustration with the democratic members by trying to prove his chops as a high voltage lawyer, doing everything he could to confuse and obfuscate.

IT makes me feel dirty and ashamed to be a human.

32. How good a defense against perjury is saying "I don't remember"?
I mean, Braley essentially laid it out beyond a reasonable doubt that this was an event that multiple people remembered. If you're an active participant, how do you forget? I mean, it was patently obvious she was lying under oath, because no way does she not remember what she claims to not recall. But is saying you don't remember enough to shield you from perjury?

I guess the first question I should have asked is: Is lying to Congress during sworn testimony the same as doing it in a court of law?

38. Answering your question,
yes and no. One of the elements required for successful prosecution of perjury is that you must prove willful intent to deceive.

They would have to prove through external preponderance evidence that she knew she was lying...such as an email she wrote to someone saying she felt their political preservation meeting was a huge success, or something along those lines.

Second part of your question is yes...perjury is perjury. Congress and federal government bodies also have a unique carved out additional deception statute called False Statements Act.

It does not require proof of willful intent to lie and carries a sentence up to five years in prison. It is also 18 times more successful in prosecutions than perjury.
