THE body of a missing British-language teacher has been found buried in a bathtub of sand on the balcony of a Japanese flat.

Police are hunting for the man who lived in the home where Lindsay Ann Hawker, 22, was discovered.

Her body was almost entirely covered by sand, with only one hand showing, and, according to some reports, there was bruising to her face. However, there are no suggestions that she had been buried alive.

The suspect, Tatsuya Ishihashi, 28, who is understood to be an acquaintance of the victim, managed to escape when officers arrived at the scene in eastern Tokyo. Detectives have obtained a warrant for his arrest.

More likely, she was moonlighting as an escort and got involved with the wrong guy. Attractive foreign females can make a tremendous amount of money doing this but, every once in a while, one disappears. About 5 years ago, I was living in Tokyo and I recall another case, British girl, who worked as an escort in a club in Roppongi, vanished. She was later found dismembered and buried in concrete far from Tokyo. A lot of weird stuff goes on in Japan.
