I was just curious cause religious fundamentalists seem to think so.

1. It's still in most school and public libraries.
They just don't look in the proper area. Too lazy to look around for it-they think it should be on display.

5. And exact quotes about it.
We learned about it in school-in high school world history. They touched up on it no different than when it came time for the Koran or any Eastern religions.

18. Any any half-wit can find it easily
But then, no one ever accused the Talibangelicals of having even half a wit.

In the Dewey Decimal System, used by most public and school libraries, book dealing with Bibles will have the number 220. Under the Library of Congress system, usually found in college libraries, Bibles all have the code of (I kid you not) BS. An index of LoC and DDS can be found at http://kcfac.kilgore.cc.tx.us/library/lc_dewey.htm if anyone is interested.

9. interestingly enough..........
If you want the old and the new testament, not just the new, you actually have to look a bit harder.

It's the "Holy Bible" if you want both.......and I found that entirely odd, if interesting.

10. Why ban the bible, when no one reads it (to their peril)!
Edited on Wed Mar-28-07 08:13 PM by Mind_your_head
....everything that was EVER worthy of *thinking * about is in "that Book"......additionally look to the works of Socrates, et al.

Everything that has ever been *worthy* of thinking about, has been thought of before.

12. You are assuming they want us to be able to read
One of the basic tenants of fundamentalism is control through ignorance. That's why so many fundamentalist groups don't edumacate their women-folk. Of course, they don't realize what that says about the men to us outsiders.

11. Religious freaks feel the need to be able use the Bible as a weapon
They want to beat you with it, make graven images of it, and force you to chant the words whenever they feel the notion.

15. Time magazine seems to think we all want it!
I was so pissed when I found out our cover was the Bible taught in school and all over the world the cover was Afghanistan! Sick, sick sick...I told my husband I am not renewing them, they just don't do the investigative stuff they used to. At least NOT for U.S.

In my junior high, it was, more or less, but that was a long time ago. A girl had a Bible on her desk at the beginning of class--it was unopened, and the girl never preached at others. The English teacher saw it, and it was in the teacher's desk drawer in a second. "You're not allowed to have that in school. Your mother or father can get it from the principle."

And that was that. I think she lost her Bible to the English teacher again a week later, and I don't recall seeing it again. But that was a long time ago, and things were more relaxed in high school, IIRC. There were a lot of flip-flops between extremes in the '70s.

20. My English teacher would have taken it away
because it wasn't a textbook or required reading for that classtime. If it had nothing to do w/ her class it was not to be on our desks or we'd risk losing it.
