Give Cramer Some Credit
At least he showed up on Stewart's show, and respectually admitted that he made mistakes without being an ass like Tucker Carlson was when Stewart appeared on Crossfire.

This started because Rick Santelli canceled his appearance on "The Daily Show" and Cramer was the scapegoat for Santelli, and the rest of CNBC.

I hope Jon does the right thing and gets back on Santelli's ass next week.

1. Just finished saying that in another thread
Cramer did a lot of bad things as well, but at least he showed up to get grilled by Stewart. He had the guts to do it, unlike Rick Santelli.

3. Admitted he made mistakes? I will give credit to the non-criminals, Cramer does not qualify.

4. Agreed
He had the guts to show up and didn't throw a hissy fit. He had enough human in him to look ashamed, which is more than can be said for a lot of his type.

He certainly made mistakes, and his motives for those are questionable. But he's a small part of a small part of the problem. Time to move on to more reprehensible culprits.

5. Cramer is not a scapegoat ...

He's part of the problem and deserved everything delivered to him.

I'll give him credit for showing up in the same way I give a criminal credit for showing up to court.

7. No. Never. Cramer is a criminal who got caught and played the victim.
"I was lied to!" No he wasn't. He heard the "lies" and repeated them verbatim.

Cramer deserves jail time.

deserves credit for voting with the Dems and saying nice things about the President.

It's called: "saving one's ass."

9. I think he showed up because
he made the same error that Carlson and Begala did on Crossfire - he assumed that it would be a light, fluffy interview, and that Jon Stewart wasn't actually seriously pissed off about something. The only times I've ever seen Stewart do an interview that hard-hitting (Crossfire and now Cramer), you could tell he was personally angry.

Cramer has been on the Daily Show before. He thought they'd share some jokes about the "feud", have a few laughs, there would be a mea culpa or two, they'd shake hands, and that would be that.

It wasn't until the interview started that he realized he'd made a terrible mistake. So I won't give him too much credit.

10. Cramer LIED about Stewart, amounting to attempted slander.
Edited on Fri Mar-13-09 07:18 PM by Hissyspit
Sorry. He is getting what he had coming to him.

Stewart said on his show that Cramer said to buy Bear Stearns before it crashed and burned. Cramer said that this was an urban myth that Stewart was propagating. Stewart then ran the tape showing Cramer telling people several weeks before Bear Stearns disintegrated to buy Bear Stearns, and, as well, a week or so be for it turned to glop telling people to keep their Bear Stearns. Cramer lied at Stewart's expense. He got caught and called out in the lie.

I'll Give Him a Bit of Credit for Showing up, but
he's not sorry and the only reason he admitted to making mistakes is because he got straight up caught red handed and called out by Stewart. I think Cramer's apology is about as sincere as Madoff's.

13. He had to go on TDS
He had to, in the (I think) mistaken belief that if he didn't show up, Stewart would continue with his evisceration of Cramer.

Believe me, he was well-prepared for that appearance by lawyers of various specialties, including white-collar crime.

I think he was broken when he realize Stewart was going to show those clips. They sank Cramer.

I give him no credit. None. He's filth.

14. Yeah, but let's not forget...
there are people who are going do die in poverty because of him and CNBC. Not a small number of people either.

He fucking should feel bad. I guess it proves he's a human, unlike a golem like Fourth-Branch, but still.

what he did wasn't a mistake. He and the people like him made no mistakes. They knew what they were doing and didn't care because of the money they were pocketing.

16. Cramer's more than a scapegoat, but props to him for showing up
Stewart was correct to lay into him for covering up all the fraud he knew damned well was going on just to keep the suckers putting their money into a market that had to fall.

He was correct to lay into him for being a paid liar and cheat.

18. Cramer lied right to John's face.
Then was shown to be the liar he is. He not only knew what was going on, he had an entirely different philosophy off camera than on.

I agree Cramer isn't at fault for this entire mess, and maybe he even stopped his criminal actions at some point. But the fact is the guy is an admitted cheat. He then lied about that on national television, and got called to the mat.

He should be finished in his current employment, if not charged for the crime he admitted to in that tape. Just my two cents.

19. Cramer was the sacrificial lamb by CNBC- he went on because his masters told him

They knew they had to put somebody on and he drew the short straw.
I expect him gone in 6 months.

He still tried to lie in front of John.

20. No-- to me, the most condemning thing about Cramer is that he does not SEE
Edited on Fri Mar-13-09 07:23 PM by Marr
the problem. He's so much a PART of the problem that he cannot SEE it.

Stewart spent a long time trying to articulate the point that the market operates like an exclusive money-stealing scam for privileged insiders, and that they're stealing *our* money. Cramer couldn't even see it. It seems so natural, so normal to him that he'd never even *considered* trying to resist it. That's why he has his own show on CNBC, and that's why he was willing to come on the Daily Show.

21. that's true........at least he seemed willing to listen!
true, it did start with Santelli and the way he chickened out of that appearance. He seemed to have no problem appearing on shows that were promoting his ideas but he sure ran the other way at the thought of facing Jon!!

I think some people sometimes underestimate Jon because he's a comedian but he also does some excellent serious interviews!!

I've seen Cramer interviewed on many shows but I have never seen him so quiet as he was last night!! He looked like he was getting a lecture from his high school Principle!

22. Cramer is an author and television personality, to those people any face time is good time
He got his name and face on wide spread National television. It can only help get more viewers to his own show. The dirty little secret is he makes money even when he is being trashed.

He clearly thinks that the only mistake he made was not making the right calls re: the market situation. He still thinks that himself and other insiders should be the only ones privy to the real truth (when CEOs are lying, when propaganda campaigns and rumors are underway) and only those people should evaluate the evidence and return a good answer.

If they use their knowledge to steal money or partake in other "shenanigans", that is fine as long as they make good calls. He considers the failure to be when he, with all his insider knowledge, makes a bad call.

NOT the non-disclosure of unsavory secrets, and corresponding failure to be any kind of journalist.

NOT the breaking of the law.

Those are not mistakes, in his eyes.
