Teachers geeting laid off? What happens to the students?
Are they just getting distributed throughout the remaining teacher's classes? What is going on here?

2. This is awful.
Let's see what the parents of kids who were opposed to the stimulus have to say about this.

3. Yeah, and perhaps a shorted school year.
Happening here.

Teachers with less than 3 years in district were given pink slips. Teacher's workers agreed to forego some pay so that lay offs aren't worse.

5. The class size is going to be
outrageous!

It's hard enough keeping track of thirty students.

Forty+ students in one class is too much!

6. Yep, happening in my district
We've got English and Math teachers who are now teaching their hobbies during elective periods because those teachers were laid off. The District has simply got to put the budget in the paper and tell the people where the $12 million is going or the people are not going to understand why they need more money.

7. Yes...they get crammed into already overloaded classrooms.
My son's class is already comprised of about 33% of English as a second language students. This is in the midwest. Imagine a school in one of the border states.

In most cases, at least here; money is not saved by hiring more ESL translators/teachers.

End result? Less time with each individual student = lower scores = less money for the school.

Makes a lot of sense, doesn't it?

8. But - but - isn't it the TEACHERS who are failing?
Apparently they can only be motivated by merit raises, they have no dedication to their task, they are lazy, and once they get their feet in the door, you can never get rid of them. So this is a good thing, right?

:sarcasm:

9. the students get screwed over again....
it`s "leave every child behind" by "testing for dollars"

a public school district that has enough money can tell the feds to shove the stupid "testing for dollars" law.

a private school does`t have to worry about the "testing for dollars"

the rest of public education gets the shaft.

welcome to duncan`s future of public education
