Why right-wing propagandists get the morning shows?
Because they appeal to the "ditto-heads" - those with just enough knowledge to be dangerous. For example, Rush Limbaugh listeners and racists, perhaps one and the same? Also, religious ideologues.

These folks usually go to work early. When they come home, they gather around the reality shows or watch their favorite weekly shows on network TV. They seldom listen to the evening political shows. They get all they need from the Don Imus, Joe Scarborough, FOX News, and ABC morning shows, to last them a full day. They seldom listen to shows like Countdown or Rachel Maddow or even, Chris Matthews.

If they were on in the evening hours, they would lose most of their listeners. Scarborough and Buchanan are the cornerstones of the right-wing morning listeners. They rev up their news for the entire day. They are opportunist propagandists. They more than balance out any "left-wing" news from Olberman or Maddow.

2. That would give the advantage to the right-wingers...
Those few hardcore "conservatives" will always watch Hannity or O'Reilly or anyone before they will watch Olberman or Maddow. They will usually just re-inforce what the viewers and listeners had seen and heard earlier in the day from Scarborough and Buchanan. Repetition is the key to right-wing propaganda.
