Conservative Group Planning Aggressive Attack On Obama’s Justice Nominees

Here’s something that signals an aggressive assault from the right on President Obama’s picks to run the Department of Justice.

In a highly unusual move designed to make it tougher for Senators to vote to confirm four of Obama’s picks for key sub-cabinet slots at Justice, the conservative Family Research Council is planning to “score” the votes of individual Senators on whether to confirm those nominees.

The Family Research Council’s planned assault concerns four nominees that are highly regarded on the left: Associate Attorney General Thomas Perrelli, Solicitor General Elena Kagan and Assistant Attorney General Dawn Johnsen, and Deputy Attorney General David Ogden. Ogden angers the right for his work representing porn organizations; Perrelli represented Michael Schiavo; Kagan opposed a measure letting military recruiters on campus; and Johnsen is a consistent supporter of abortion rights.

Senate votes on the four are expected this week. But the move could slow efforts to get them confirmed, because it could make GOP Senators hesitant to vote for them, lest their conservative “rating” by the group suffer.

The Council, which has never taken this step before, made its plans known in a letter to many GOP Senators that was obtained by our reporter, Ian Herbert. In the letter, the group urged Senators to “oppose” these picks and threatened: “If these nominations reach the Senate floor FRCAction will score this vote in our scorecard for the First Session of the 111th Congress.”

All in all, this signals a much tougher assault from the right on Obama’s Justice picks than many expected, so it’s really a battle to watch.

1. To the rest of the country (and world), a position for abortin rights is
considered to be nothing of concern.

Allowing military recruiters on campus plays right along with abortion. You make sure that all fetuses are brithed so that the child can grow up and be killed for the sake of corporations, ceo's, and stockholders before the age of 21.

Took a case related to porn? Some Republican lawyer defended Larry Craig and a few other law breakers.

Fighting because a lawyer worked on Michael Sciavo's case?

Just as arrogant politicians, corporations, and wall street and financial advisors and commentators declared war on the citizens of the U.S. and the world - the ridiculous religious righ reverends have declared their wars.

Now they are taking hostages.

The world still has to be afraid of the military brass, corporate/financial thieves, reverends, lobbyists-politicians, media of the United States of America.

Give these people their own country and let them have at it. Please leave us alone - we'll find our way just fine.

I've had it. Let the GOP be taken hostage for a reverends demands.
