I will have to say that McCain and the GOP look pretty stunned by Obama's announcement on contract controls. I suspect that is the first of many times that we'll see a smart President who is NOT beholden to special interests as he surprises everyone. After McCain's rant yesterday, gramps looked like a fool today. Who'll be next to open his mouth on the Senate floor? I can't wait until the next GOP hack complains about health care or energy...and then watch them standing in the background in the press room.
The neocons likely thought they were handing Obama an impossible war, budget, and social policy mess. He was "born and bred in the briar patch" of action organizing in one of the toughest political cities in the world, and the repubs have simply given him an open chance to make changes. In my lifetime (I'm a boomer), I haven't seen a stronger cabinet for any President, nor one more committed to change.
If we have a press conference every week like the one this morning, Obama will be a lock for a second term by July 4th.
