On the "Left Behind" Appearance on The Rachel Maddow Show:
Earlier tonight she stated, about last week's appearance, that they have since posted on one of their websites that Rachel edited the video in a way to make them look foolish. (I thought the 3 minute segment was unbelievably respectful on Rachel's part.) So she said you can see the whole 10 minutes on MSNBC, and I watched it. It was incredibly respectful too.

I worked with a rapture believer and liked the person a whole lot, so I thought that maybe these two guys, Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins, could possibly be at least honest, but I was wrong.

The full 10 minute interview is here:

1. "Let's go to the video."
My favorite five words on television.

2. LOL like they need help to look foolish.
Rachel bent over backwards to be courteous to those mouth breathers. Fuck them and their whining.

5. She sure did
I was annoyed that she was so nice to them, as if she were validating their nonsense. But, I'm not as nice as Rachel.

Now, this bullshit?

Fuck 'em is right.

3. Did these guys think that there was no way she would post
the entire taped session? They are upset because they look like the lunatics they are? These two are like the travelin preachers in the 1900's promising rain to drought ridden areas, or good health to the ill. The only difference is they aren't riding in covered wagons.
They take advantage of an audience that is fearful and eager.

Good for Rachael.

4. Why should they care? They will be taken bodily into heaven
no matter how they looked on the Rachel Maddow show.
And if they are right it will happen soon!

6. Here's the entry on Jerry Jenkins blog (nice picture with Rachel)
Beneath the pictures from the Friday, Feb 27th entry

http://jerryjenkins.blogspot.com/

Dr. LaHaye and I did 17 TV shows and 16 radio shows in two days. One national one was with Rachel Maddow, the new queen of liberalism. We enjoyed the opportunity to go into the lion's den, but we made the mistake of letting her tape it and thus run an edited version of it (just tonight as a matter of fact). It was really one of the most craftily edited pieces I've ever seen.

It didn't bother me that everything I said was left on the cutting room floor. I'm nowhere near as controversial or as political as Dr. LaHaye, but the way she sliced and diced his comments fit her agenda and, naturally, made us look like idiots. While this picture was being shot, Rachel asked if we were going to put this on our dartbboards. I said, "You want to be the antichrist this week?" She thought that was funny, but little did I know how it would all turn out.

You live and learn. No more taping when we're on with opponents.

7. I'm back to where I was when the right relished the war with Iraq and could not

find fault with the rights we were losing and who fomented hate for Moslems and 'Mexicans' (meaning all Latinos except Cubans). They who kept abortion on as the most important issue in the world while approving of torture (for some it was most important after the end times).

Now, they are flipping - this socialism and spending is powerfully boring.

I wanted to split off from them - I kinda thought we should go separate ways and let them supply the children to fight the Moslems and Mexicans. Not us. We could keep a military to protect us from them.

I'm coming back to that position. They don't want to fit in. They have seperated themselves. They are exclusionary. Let them be their own citizens of their own country. they get 35% of the country only - that is their true base.

Let them have a President and Atty General who rewrites their Constitution and keeps a database on their every move and thought.

Let them flush their own government down a bathtub drain. Let them pump their oil holes dry and then import the rest of what they need from sone Christian nation somewhere. And let them do it all without paying taxes. Let them give themselves tax credits galore. Let them have their Ten Commandments in their city halls and stuff Christianity and their version of the the evil polar reilgions and sciences into their kids heads.
It's time to let them separate.

It's hopeless. Let's just figure out what contiguous states would work for them - I think it has to be a little zuchini or yellow squash shape from Alabama up to Montana. Sorry to say. I hope it doesn't include Nashville or New Orleans.

8. He has a new "To Her Credit" entry. I didn't get to see the "cut" version myself I don't see
Edited on Wed Mar-04-09 10:18 AM by 54anickel
how they could come off stranger than the do in the full version.

(edit to add that I came across this looking for the cut version)

I give Jenkin credit for this entry - of course what else could he say, even some of his own readers commented that they thought Rachel was quite professional/repsectful in the interview. Reader comments for this entry are very respectful as well.
The whole deal is quite a tribute to Rachel Maddow's ability to have civil, respectful dialog with people from all over the spectrum.

To Her Credit...

...Rachel Maddow apologized for the fact that I felt ambushed on her show and has posted both her apology and the full, unedited tape on her website.

That's more than fair, and I appreciate it. And I must say, she was very professional during the interview and most personable and gracious afterward, taking the time to pose for pictures when our camera was malfunctioning, etc.

On her website, the apology is under "What we left behind." http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26315908/vp/29495971#29499435

And the unedited interview is at http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26315908/vp/29495971#29495971

I was public about my displeasure and am happy to publically thank her for doing this. I may still look like an idiot, but at least you'll be able to judge that for yourself from the full context.
