Oy. No, your income tax doesn’t suddenly shoot up if your taxable income rises one penny into a new bracket. To belabor the obvious, the tax code specifies marginal rates: your rate rises from 33 to 35 percent if your taxable income exceeds $372,950, but only the income above $372,950 pays the higher rate.

1. How can somebody be so fucking stupid that they don't know how marginal tax rates work

yet supposedly contribute enough to our economy to warrant a $250K+ annual income?

2. I didn't really know

Mainly because I've never really switched brackets or paid much attention to it, but it took me about 1 minute of actually looking at how it works before I basically got it. Then I asked a few questions from a few people and it reaffirmed the obvious. It's not hard, if somebody wants to learn it it takes a person little time at all. The level of ignorance we have in this country is astounding, it makes even the simplest of things difficult to deal with.
