Blair and *s talk before the Iraq war. You know, about painting up a UN plane and flying it directly over Iraq enticing Saddam to shoot it down. The British memos explain it all. Though many in here don't seem to remember those memos. Or just don't want to talk about them. This is my fourth post today about those memos and I have only seen one response? Is there something I don't know (LOL, that's loaded question).

2. The Downing Street Memos absolutely were discussed in depth here
and are crucial. Seems funny we don't hear about them much anymore.

3. I do remember...
I also remember Sy Hersch's book and the direct quote from the pilots ordered to provoke confrontation.

4. Because the minute someone says
MIHOP, the thread will be relegated to the comspiracy dungeon. No, you're not the only one who's worrying. The timing is highly critical. US/UK seem to be goading Iran, begging it to make a false move.

And the way they're playing it, there is very little anyone can do to stop it. Protest after Iran gets attacked - sure, but now? Who's going to go out and protest Navy exercises? Though of course this is exactly what shoyld be happening: imagine the response if Iran was running wargames a dozen miles off Louisiana coast, or on the North Sea somewhere.

I don't knwo _what_ to say. I'm scanning the news every hour.

5. The Downing Street Memos were covered here at DU, but largely ingored
by the media.

I wonder if they'll be popping up again, given the change in political climate? Everything old is new again, so they say. And this time, perhaps the media will be more interested in reporting about them.

You are correct, though. There is a bit of the Downing Street plan in these recent actions by the Navy.

6. This is bush and blair's 'final stand' to save the legacies of their failed regimes..........
fitting that they BOTH will go down in history as total failures.

7. Anyone privy to the circumstances of the 2004 capture?
I read that a similar incident happened in 2004 with british soldiers. Perhaps they tried to rile Iran into a fight then and it didn't work?

11. nightwatcher, i'm for Chimpeachment anytime. It's Pelosi we have to
convince. My feeling it has to be some new outrage, one that wasn't known when she said before the election that it was off the table. When the next outrage happens, then that will be a new ball of wax and she can address that without appearing to flip-flop. That's politics.

10. Well, some of us old-timers remember....
the Gulf of Tonkin incident, which basically got us on the road to excalating Vietnam into a big thing. Prior to that, we were just advisors and stuff.

Word is, we were doing some agressive patrolling in those waters. This resembles that a bit, maybe.
