Call me a crazy liberal, but....

1.) Derivatives are not substitutes for Risk Analysis

2.) Gunboat Imperialism is not a substitute for Productivity

3.) Propaganda is not a substitute for Truth

4.) Unsustainable ecological activities always end badly

5. 5) Home prices need to be between 2-4 times gross family incomes to be sustainable
6) When a nation depends on outsiders to supply food or energy, the result, invariably, will be bad foreign policy decisions based on need, not principle.

7) We should have listened when George Washington told us to avoid foreign entanglements.

11. Which tells me that the people investing in foreign enterprises...
(including the importation of oil) have more money and political clout (if that's not redundant) than the people who make things and provide American jobs.

10. K&R #5, welcome ot the greatest page. The truth will out.
It is frequently very painful, but in the end it reveals itself to those looking to see.

15. Forgive me for disagreeing but you are pissing into the wind.
Your four points are demonstrably untrue:

"1.) Derivatives are not substitutes for Risk Analysis" - Yes they are. They are precisely substitutes for "Risk Analysis", retrospectively proven by the fact that they were so substituted and will be again. The wonder is that it took so long to achieve the "substitution".

"2.) Gunboat Imperialism is not a substitute for Productivity" - Again, yes it is. That is what Globalization is all about. Infuse more capital outside the borders of the U.S., protect it with "gunboats", and you make more money... simple.

"3.) Propaganda is not a substitute for Truth" - Sure it is. That is the essential product of the large scale use of media for political purposes, commonly considered to have been pioneered in Nazi Germany. How is this supposed to be avoided in an age of the concentration of media in giant media conglomerates? Do they not have interests?

"4.) Unsustainable ecological activities always end badly" - Only for some. It makes money, which is liquid and moves on. The mountain might have been stripped clean but the mining capital which did it is long gone - and many times expanded...

The "fundamentals" you describe are merely the infancy of a child who is bound to grow up. You are a "crazy liberal"? Well then, get used to what you see. You won't accept what you see? Then, you ain't no "liberal". Welcome to the club.
