What recession?
So the gf and I go out to dinner on two separate nights this weekend...both restaurants have an hour wait for a table...I ask the server if they have been busy. She says, "We have been slammed for a couple of weeks...but people are tipping less..."

Head over to the Hard Rock casino...it is absolutely packed. Valet parking has a 20 minute wait...the blackjack tables are full, 15-20 minutes to get a seat. (The table minimums are $25 and $50 dollars...)

This is in the Tampa Bay area.

Strange.

7. Where did the OP say it isn't real?
I've seen the same thing in Raleigh, NC and Atlanta, GA.

It's nice to see people helping the economy. Maybe that's all they meant.

Wow!!

Some of you people are way too negative and/or angry.

Why is wrong for some of else to try and find positive things in our economy? I, for one, am optimistic that our DEMOCRATIC President and Congress are going to make things better.

15. Yes you did.
That symbol at the end implies a question.

19. You misread the question mark at the end.
Try reading the subject a few times slowly.

The question mark implies a question, not a statement. The OP is just saying that where they are coming from it doesn't look like a recession, not that one doesn't exist.

Also, the OP is representing something good, not bad. Now, maybe you would rather restaurants were empty/closing, and people were losing their jobs. I, for one, am happy to see people spending some money.

25. All restaurants will never be empty...
and 100% of people will never lose their jobs. Thank goodness that means there is no recession.

5. A few anecdotes and there's no recession? ..... Perhaps it was the start of spring break week?
There's very much a recession. I'm sure your governor would gladly confirm that for you.

6. I just found it an interesting situation...
and somewhat strange.

But I guess posting an observation here makes one a crook/high roller/bad guy.

8. Yeah. Quit looking for positivity in this economy.
Haven't you seen all of the 'sky is falling' DOW reports every five minutes?

Where supposed to be negative and miserable.

14. Southwest Boston suburbs, along the 495 belt.
A couple of towns in the area had a similar occurrence, but most saw a drop in property values.

9. Good. Keep consuming for those of us who can't.
It's the only thing left to our economy.

12. uhh...you're in tampa, in florida, as the snowbirds are still avoiding the brutal winter up north...
i have a couple of wayrightwing friends who say, even though their investments have taken major hits, "I thought the economy was supposed to be bad...look at the full football stadiums..."

yeah, 60,000 people (out of 2 million in the immediate metro area) prove that things are okay...

the tampa area is somewhat protected due to the nature of its basic industries...drive south an hour and check out ft. myers, pt. charlotte, punta gorda, etc. and see how they're doing...and don't bother heading inland....

i know it's being felt - we have friends who own construction, he's been highly grumpy lately...but generally, the high-rise condos are still moving along, restaurants and bars are packed...i did visit the outlet mall a couple of weeks ago and it was pretty dead

i'm not stupid, LOL

i just keep waiting for the shoe...

21. Well there are fewer places to go now
I know a bunch of restaurants around me have closed and the few that remain look like they are doing a brisk business on the weekends. Ya figure it is the probably less people going out...and there are fewer places to choose from making those that remain busy. Also I just got my Tax check this week..I am sure I am not the only one.

I just keep watching everyday as the next batch of layoffs come down the pike hoping we can out last them till things pick up....

23. Come on, you didn't get the memo?
THIS is the economy's and life's theme from now on. We're all a'gonna dine on grubs in the woods. Mud huts. Landfill buffets. Nowhere to sleep when it rains. OH, IT'S COMING!! YOU JUST WAIT AND SEEEEEEEEEEE! :sarcasm:

I for one am wanting to know what's going to happen first: Corporations to stop firing or consumers to start buying again. The second thing can't happen without the first, but corporations think otherwise.
