Prejudices Are Always Wrong
Pre-judging someone based on their weight is wrong.

Pre-judging someone based on whether their parents can prepare them an adequate lunch is wrong.

Pre-judging someone based on their lack of housing is wrong.

Pre-judging someone based on their poverty is wrong.

Pre-judging someone based on how they got to this country is wrong.

Pre-judging someone based on how or who they love is wrong.

Pre-judging someone based on their skin color or nationality is wrong.

Pre-judging someone based on how they worship is wrong.

Pre-judging someone based on their gender is wrong.

If someone needs help, that is enough to help them. If someone feels pain, it is not up to you or I to deny their pain. If someone is being discriminated against because of who they are, not their actions, we must stand against it. We are one, and we must take care of each other.

3. I would say pre-judging your repuke nieghbor is wrong.
Many are lied to and believe it. Many are ignorant, by no fault of their own. Those repukes in DC have shown us, through their actions that they cannot be trusted or be given the benefit of the doubt.

5. I would say no and no.
It is not easy to say we shouldn't pre-judge based on high income. But, we can't. Many who make large sums of money are no different than you or I. They hold the same values. There are many who are corrupt and should be in jail, but it is because of their actions that we mistrust them.

Who cares who smokes. That is their choice.

6. humbly, i agree. thanks tekisui
and it really is not hard to judge. there is a difference between judging and seeing a reality of....

saying to recognize certain things create, and stating them is not the same as judging. it really is not hard to not judge.

for example, my brother and his drinking has been detrimental to his health and a life long time of problems. i can recognize and acknowledge all of this and even see that alcoholism is a part of who he is and love him regardless, without judgment.

7. How's about prejudging people based on a criminal record
or a bad credit score?

Is your point that we should only make judgments once we have learned a person's particular situation and come to conclusions for ourselves?

9. it's somewhat of a vague platitude.
i'm not going to let a sex offender stay for the weekend in my house if i have kids.

is that "prejudging?" yes.

so be it.

i am not going to assume a person breaking into my house when i am home has non-violent intent.

there are all sorts of valid reasons to PREJUDGE or judge based on past behavior.

imo, the real problem with prejudice is when people automatically assume certain group tendencies or characteristics to an individual. iow, they prejudge him based on membership not on what HE has done who HE is.

to give a sports example.

i know women on average are weaker than men. significantly so.

if i am going to comment on a particular person's strength i am not going to assume they are stronger or weaker than me BASED on their gender, even though it might be statistically likely.

i workout with a woman who squats over 1.5 times bodyweight. that's stronger than the VAST majority of men. by a big margin.

i'm not going to look at her and say "she's a woman so she can't squat bodyweight"

i'm going to go on evidence and experience not prejudice.

13. Well if you saw me and noticed I'm rather tiny, I'd appreciate it
if you assumed I couldn't carry that big heavy thing and helped me! lol.

I get that a lot at Costco and believe me, I am thankful at all the nice guys out there.

Going back to the OP, there are some things based on what they have done, and not strictly on race or gender. Like being homeless or being a particular weight.

14. it's always chivalrous to offer help
believe it or not there ARE people who take offense at that.

but i cannot live my life worried about those are perpetually offended.

as for homeless or weight, neither is necessarily related to what they have done.

some people are obese because of medications they are on, or genetics. most - because of their behavior.

i'm not going to prejudge if i don't know the facts.

that's my point

15. People just hope that it is what they have done because
thinking it is beyond your control is not a comforting thought.

17. i agree
it's a natural tendency to blame ANYONE but oneself. compulsive gamblers, drug users, drinkers, and eaters are very prone to this.

it's human nature.

18. Advice I give my nieces/nephews: "Don't judge the next one (of any group) by the last one."
Seems to work fine for them.
