The American people are addicted to credit and designer pharmaceuticals.
It's happened gradually over the past 30 years or so; our culture has become driven by greed and quick fixes. Those who control the credit and the drugs have recognized the huge money-making potential and exploited it. Or is the other way around - did they create our need for these things?

So what happens when Americans start to live within their means and live healthier? Those in control will not want to let go their grip.

We are probably in for a very bumpy ride.

1. There was a discussion on Ring of Fire with an author about Pharma
"And author Melody Petersen will join us to talk about how pharmaceuticals are no longer working to invent new medicines, and instead are ramping up their marketing campaigns to push out “blockbuster drugs.”"

She spoke about someone who gave a talk at a conference about how to create a disease.

2. Big Pharma is no longer in the R&D business.
They repackage what they already have and market the hell out of them. We do not practice preventative medicine in this country; we have terrible lifestyles and when we get sick, we take a pill instead of changing the way we live.

The drugs we NEED - like antimicrobials, are not being developed because they're not moneymakers. We are going to have a serious global problem with drug-resistant microbes very soon as we are getting way behind the 8 ball.

4. I thought it was trouble when people started calling them "meds"
like it's some kind of casual thing to be taking drugs

6. You tell me at any given point WHY it would be necessary to spend
billions of drug development dollars (much in the form of grants) so men can have hardons?
Sorry--maybe when we cure a few more diseases would I feel benevolent to empower limp Larry to fuck--but not at this time.
