A company that monitors peer-to-peer file-sharing networks has discovered a potentially serious security breach involving President Barack Obama's helicopter, NBC affiliate WPXI in Pittsburgh reported Saturday.

Employees of Tiversa, a Cranberry Township, Pa.-based security company that specializes in peer-to-peer technology, reportedly found engineering and communications information about Marine One at an IP address in Tehran, Iran.

Bob Boback, CEO of Tiversa, told WPXI-TV: "We found a file containing entire blueprints and avionics package for Marine One, which is the president's helicopter."

Obama: Marine One helicopters under review

By Donna Borak - The Associated Press
Posted : Thursday Feb 26, 2009 8:19:19 EST

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama never had a helicopter, which he says might explain why he’s perfectly happy with the current White House fleet and doesn’t need a more costly one.

At the conclusion of a fiscal summit Monday, Obama faced questions from Republican and Democratic lawmakers, including his former presidential rival, Sen. John McCain.

McCain bemoaned cost overruns in military procurement. The new fleet of 28 Marine One helicopters being built by Lockheed Martin Corp. — now over budget at $11.2 billion — will cost more than Air Force One.

3. Nuke the filthy Muslims - how dare they have plans for a 40 year old helicopter
Edited on Sun Mar-01-09 08:18 AM by ThomWV
One of a fleet of them by the way*, and if I remember right there are at least two different models.

*the reason the replacement fleet that was/is planned consisted of 19 birds is they have to be stationed all over the nation - you don't think they tow one behind AF-1 for local trips after he arrives at the airport do you?

7. Don't forget, choppers are also very maintanance intesive machines.
At any given time, I'd hazard to guess at least four or five of these birds are going to be having work done on them.

Report: Iran Stole Marine One Specs

(CNET) An Internet security company claims that Iran has taken advantage of a computer security breach to obtain engineering and communications information about Marine One, President Barack Obama's helicopter, according to a report by WPXI, NBC's affiliate in Pittsburgh.

Tiversa, headquartered in Cranberry Township, Pa., reportedly discovered a security breach that led to the transfer of military information to an Iranian IP address, according to WPXI. The information is said to include planned engineering upgrades, avionic schematics, and computer network information.

12. Yeah, looks like we may have to buy the new helicopters after all.
If these are the blueprints for the current model, which is what the article seems to say.

Perhaps the defense contractors are quite willing to undermine Obama if it means they make their sale.

11. there's also the possibility (however remote) that things such as this are...
little more than counter-measures.

For example: how best to KNOW by how much (and by whom) that we've been penetrated? one way--put out seemingly critical (but bogus) information, and then look-around to see where that "shows up".
