What troubles me about the Albuquerque Graveyard Case
Edited on Sat Feb-28-09 08:51 PM by Mike 03
This reminds me a lot of two cases in Los Angeles: The Hillside Stranglers and the horrific Bittaker and Norris serial killer case.

For the police department, it's impossible not to know that a serial killer is operating in a city. So, knowing this, is it the PD's responsibility to let people know?

There was a ton of wrong information that came out about the Hillside stranglers, such as that he/they only murdered prostitutes. This turned out to be wrong.

It's just a personal issue for me, but I can't stand it when information is with-held from the public about a serial killer operating in the area and who his victims are. It cost a friend of mine's friend her life, because the wrong information was made public, that the killer only murdered prostitutes. When in truth there were two killers, and they murdered anyone they could get their hands on.

1. The bodies were dumped there, probably by the same person
from 2000-2005. Nothing for 4 years. Either he's in prison or he's moved on.

I sincerely hope they're sharing this stuff nationwide. These creeps usually do move on, only the ones who stick around too long seem to get caught.

2. It bothers me that during
the years that these women went missing 2000/2005 there was no apparent concern that there might have been a serial killer on the loose. I'll wait for more information to be released before I move past "bothered" but 13 (missing) bodies found so far from a five year period....

4. Albuquerque has a relatively high
murder rate, or so I understand. I just did a fast google search, and according to their official crime statistics website, about 180 homicides occurred in the period under question. I'm guessing those numbers include only cases where bodies were found, and since people do occasionally go missing, you can't know for sure they were murdered until a body shows up. So it's kind of hard to be certain there's a serial killer out there if there are no bodies and women with no apparent connection to each other are simply missing.

We had a case in Kansas recently, and I'm forgetting all the pertinent details like the name of the guy and how many women he killed, but at least some of them were lured in from out of state, and then he killed them. I also can't recall how he was caught, but some remains were found in a barrel, and he's believed to have killed a number of others whose remains have never been found.
