Why did Monica Goodling hire a money laundering specialist as Attny?
John M. Dowd, Akin Gump attny
http://www.akingump.com/attorney.cfm?attorney_id=58

""Written Works
"U.S. Laundering, Forfeiture Laws Now Reach All Points on Globe," September 2002

"When Agents Serve Search Warrant, Businesses Must Know Rules of Game (Part 2 of 2),," Money Laundering Alert, June 2001

"When Laundering Charges Surface, Battles Commence on Many Fronts (Part 1 of 2)," Money Laundering Alert, May 2001 ""

Why would Monica hire a moneylaundering specialist ?

And Sampson's attorney Berenson is a former WH Counsel in the * administration who also knows what the funding for GOP operations wouold be all about but his background is in the Patriot Act which was the vehicle that set this charade up in the first place...seems to me that Congress should be asking questions to these two attorneys besides just little 'ole Monica and Kyle, eh ?

8. Berenson and Citizens for the Common Defense turn up on this DailyKos post
Edited on Tue Mar-27-07 12:15 PM by EVDebs
http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2007/3/19/12148/2763

""I had never heard of the "Citizens for a Common Defense" (CCD). They don't have their own website. Who are they?

Well, three prominent speakers were introduced by prominent neocon David Frum at an American Enterprise Institute (AEI) meeting on April 26, 2004. They were Bradford Berenson, Richard Klingler, and Adam Charnes -- the first two were described as leaders or founders of CCD, while Charnes is described as their counsel. Frum calls Berenson and Klingler his "friends".

Political savvy readers should recognize some of these names. Berenson, for instance, is the current attorney for key U.S. attorney scandal figure Kyle Sampson!!

Klingler is a recently appointed Senior Associate Counsel to President Bush!""

DUers need to investigate CCD and Berenson just a bit more closely. There is way more to this scandal than just Monica and Kyle, you can bet your ass.

Berenson HIMSELF should be testifying before Congress....DUers should demand it.

""Oh, yes, and besides being the current attorney for Kyle Sampson, Berenson was also the attorney for Rove aide Susan Ralston, implicated in the Abramoff scandal."" From DailyKos link in post above

2. The attorneys may end up being invited back
to speak in their own behalf.

God, that would be beautiful. Like watching a mob lawyer take a fall for buying a jury.

3. Well she's probably a very self conscious person
one of those people who worries that people are judging them all the time? She probably wanted clean money so she wouldn't worry about store clerks and the like looking down their noses at her.

5. That's been the GOP's racket ever since they took over Congress
in 1994. They discovered that crooked military contractors would take any fat DOD contracts that were thrown their way, do little or nothing, and distribute the taxpayer dollars as lovely bribes and "campaign donations" to their favorite crooked Congressmen and to the GOP's favorite PACs, sometimes untraceably.

Brent Wilkes and Mitchell Wade were a couple of the men in on the scam.

It was a great scam since the Pentagon is infamous for not following up on where their share of our money is going. Remember, they've lost track of TRILLIONS over the years. Part of the problem at the Pentagon is the "spend it or lose it" mentality that says if they don't spend every dime Congress lavishes upon them, they won't get as much to spend the following year.

I just want to hear some prosecutor or judge say "RICO." The GOP promised reform and delivered only a huge racket.

6. Pentagon has 'lost' $2.3 Trillion per CBSNews 'War On Waste'
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2002/01/29/eveningnews/main325985.shtml

Read Tim Weiner's Blank Check and also Alfred McCoys The Politics of Heroin to see how well known and 'public knowledge' this all is. And Congress is STILL operating in the dark. Feed 'em s^*t and keep 'em in the dark and pretty soon the mushrooms will bloom.

24. Threatens 'others' in Congress and the CIA according to this article
"...it's all part of a growing ongoing investigation into corruption in defense and intelligence contracts, which already has sent former Rep. Randy “Duke” Cunningham to prison and, legal sources say, may threaten others in Congress and the CIA."

MAY THREATEN OTHERS IN CONGRESS AND THE CIA...

FBI probes Watergate prostitution allegations
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/12634250/

This is the mother of all corruption probes and the WH and R's in congress are stonewalling it. Hmmmm.

13. Yes, but Sampson's attorney sees the writing on the wall.
Goodling's is working as fast as he can with a bottle of White Out to cover it up.

I betting Dowd will very soon be looking to broker a deal. The senators by that time may not need his offer and Goodling will be screwed.

But Berenson couldn't testify to anything confided to him anyway because of attorney-client privilege.

14. because he's not just a money laundering specialist?
Anyone going to the link you provided would see that Dowd is not just a money laundering specialist and, in fact, has experience that would suggest that if I was called before a Congressional committee, he's the kinda guy I'd want.

17. Monica didn't pick this particular guy just because he represented Pete Rose
He has some background, just like Berenson

Read about Berenson's background, if you have the nerve. HE should be testifying, NOT Monica or Kyle !

Edited on Tue Mar-27-07 01:45 PM by EVDebs
because the GOP's secret moneysource via the CIA would be totally exposed. She didn't hire this lawyer the Bush team did it FOR her. Look into Berenson's background.

Lawyered up and shutting up. Maybe a Grand Jury in DC can compel testimony.....

23. Keith Olbermann's video shows Dowd also was a KeatingS&L lawyer
http://www.alternet.org/blogs/video/49804

""Monica Goodling of A.G. Gonzales' staff has lawyered up, and her attorney (John Dowd, of Pete Rose and John McCain / Keating S&L scandal fame) fired off a lengthy letter to whoever in congress would read it, stating that she will invoke her 5th amendment right not to testify before a congressional committee. There's a whole lot of nuance to this piece of the story, but suffice it to say that Goodling's way out on a limb with her invocation of the 5th. And Dowd's on very shaky legal ground. Conventional wisdom: Dowd's letter is fishing for an immunity deal for Goodling from Sen. Pat Leahy.""

Sorry Keith, Dowd is teamed up with Kyle Sampson's attny Berenson, and their combined backgrounds in covering for the CIA/GOP money is enough to make continued silence to Congress the stonewalling that Nixon was advised to do during Watergate. A real investigation on the main corruption revealed in Carol Lam's original Cunningham/Wilkes/Foggo/CIA case should continue...

Besides, a Grand Jury investigation can compel testimony, like in the Libby case, remember ? It wasn't that long ago for the media or DUers to figure out...
