In fact Generals in Iraq are saying the USA will not honor the agreement it signed with Iraq at the end of Bush*'s term. That all US military will bwe out of Baghdad by June and out of the country completely by the end of 2011. I seem to recall Obama telling us one of the very first things he would do as President would begin the draw down of our military from Iraq. A month in and ???????.

2. The SOFA says all troops out by December 31, 2011
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U.S.-Iraq_Status_of_Forces_Agreement

This remains, as always will be Bush's war, regardless.

That doesn't really have any bearing on the Promise Obama made while on the campaign trail though. I feel it is time to remind him of that one promise of with drawing troops ASAP. Like I say one month down and only fifteen more to go..And we are still pouring Two Billion a Week into this lost cause.

3. Oh they'll leave soon - someone's got to go to Afghanistan and keep
the pump primed. Obama's got some nasty bosses now (not us in case you're confused), and one of the big money makers of the empire is its war machine.

7. Where in my post did I say that anyone said any such thing?
Edited on Fri Feb-20-09 12:10 PM by Winterblues
I said Obama made the Promise he would begin the military draw-down as one of his very first actions upon becoming President. Like I said one month in and so far nothing at all and only fifteen months left to complete the draw-down.

13. Actually, that's not what
he said would be his first action regarding Iraq. His stated that his first action would be to get his military peeps together to formulate the 16 month withdrawal...remember?

Remember the "We need to be as careful getting out as we were careless getting in"?

He only said the military peeps thing and the above statement hundreds of times.

15. This is from Obama's website
Barack Obama and Joe Biden believe we must be as careful getting out of Iraq as we were careless getting in. Immediately upon taking office, Obama will give his Secretary of Defense and military commanders a new mission in Iraq: ending the war. The removal of our troops will be responsible and phased, directed by military commanders on the ground and done in consultation with the Iraqi government. Military experts believe we can safely redeploy combat brigades from Iraq at a pace of 1 to 2 brigades a month that would remove them in 16 months. That would be the summer of 2010 – more than 7 years after the war began.

There are approximately sixteen brigades in Iraq. One a month and getting them out in sixteen months means we should have begun already.

17. Why did you gloss over
and/or refuse to consider this part?:

"Obama will give his Secretary of Defense and military commanders a new mission in Iraq: ending the war."

That's where we are right now. They are putting together his mission. Did you want him to lie and be careless getting out?

18. apparently some do
I don't. I want it done in a way that minimizes the hurt. I don't like using the killing of people as a way to conduct business and feel that war is an admission of failure. A failure to communicate

11. Didn't he make certain Promises when he campaigned for President?
Where in any of my posts did I say All troops out in one month. Obama made a Promise he would begin troop withdrawal as one of his very first courses of action. Only fifteen months left when will he even start?

22. Hmmm...
I'm on the same general facility (and get briefed about attacks on the VBC weekly) and haven't heard anything about daily attacks on Slayer. I eat there for lunch on occasion...just something different. Also I drive through Slayer all the time to get to Victory. Maybe he's hearing some of the controlled detonations (ie, EOD setting off explosions on purpose...like destroying IEDs found, etc).

Things are actually really quiet here. Attacks occur from time to time, but I haven't heard or seen any information saying it was daily.

21. To some people the killing in the world is slightly more important than a puppy.
Edited on Fri Feb-20-09 02:21 PM by Winterblues
I realize not all feel that way. I am however very opposed to the ongoing occupation of Iraq and for that matter Afghanistan as well. If a puppy is the most important issue to you, what can I say. I want to hold Obama's feet to the fire in getting us out of Iraq...I have heard no other squeeks about it and I always figure the squeeky wheel gets the grease.

23. I seriously doubt it can happen in 16 months...
Often it takes months to remove just one unit and all the supporting equipment. 16 months is very optimistic, and not taking into any account the tactical, political and logistical implications. I think it would be wise if Obama listened to the people that are most familiar with the situation. Believe it or not, the military leadership over here is much more loyal to our chain of command than some would have you think. If Obama says get out, they'll plan to get out...but they'll be upfront and honest with him and tell him that 16 months is setting up to fail.
