My near-brush with a late term abortion - UPDATE
Back in October, I posted our story about how we were almost faced with the excruciating decision to terminate our very wanted baby late in the pregnancy. Here is the original post: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x4256204

Several had asked that I update with pictures after the baby was born. It took me awhile because I've been insanely busy lately, but I'm thrilled to report that Colin Alexander was born on November 22, 2008 at 6 lbs, 12 oz, 20 1/2 inches long and PERFECTLY HEALTHY!

Here's my little guy the day he was born:

And now:

I know it sounds corny, but he's truly the light of our lives.

6. Looks like a happy and well-cared-for and loved baby. Enjoy.
And have comfort that no one from this site will bless you for saving a baby from the evils of choice.

We genuinely wish you the best and will not treat you like a political weapon.

10. First off....Does EVERY newborn get wrapped in that same blanket?
Second, what a wonderful baby, handsome We were parents of two kids for six years until a particularly amorous moment led to a third pregnancy and, this third child is the light of our lives too.....well, at least until she starts smart talking back like her older siblings.

We had each child at a different place, oddly enough two of them have closed, but regardless, each of them were wrapped in that same striped blanket....well, after they came out that is.

Baby then

Baby now

I am so glad your story has an ongoing happy resolution.....

39. Labor and Delivery nurse for 17 years and a travel nurse for many of those years
Answer-yes, they do. Somebody cornered the market on that one and almost all the hospitals I worked at had that exact same one. They aren't even very soft which is too bad.

14. I am 23 weeks pregnant now and remembered your post when I went to my last ultrasound
two weeks ago. The ultrasound took about an hour and they scanned and measured everything. The whole time I was thinking about what happened to you and what we would do if they'd find something seriously wrong with him.

However, everything looks great. Despite my age (44) the amnio and the ultrasound came back normal. This is our first pregnancy and a loss would have been devastating, since this will be probably our last chance of having a child (besides adopting). We are expecting Connor mid-June :)

Colin is a seriously cute baby. Congratulations!!!

15. Congratulations!!
I'm so glad that everything is fine with your little one. I was 35 when Colin was born, and there is something really special about having a baby at an, ahem, advanced maternal age. Maybe it's that you know just how precious life is as you get older, I don't know... but the love is unmeasurable!

Have a happy and healthy remainder of your pregnancy!

17. wonderful!
He's so cute, so precious. Congratulations to you and your hubby!

(My newborn daughter died 26 yrs ago, living only a few hrs with a diaphragmatic hernia. Late term abortions were not available in my state then and my doc wouldn't hear of it anyway. It was traumatizing and heart-breaking to carry her to term, knowing she would experience an agonizing death. Her hernia was so large that it did not close, as Colin's did, and it affected her kidneys. Even though Amy's death was not his fault, I hated my doc; he was not sympathetic. Year later, I encountered him in a restaurant with a table full of other people and had at him. He left immediately.)

I'm so happy that Colin was born healthy.

22. Congratulations! - and a note
We had a very similar situation with my son. He was diagnosed with Anencephaly and we went through the same thing you did for those couple of weeks, but when we went back for the confirmation he was fine. Best news I ever got.

Congrats on your little joy.

26. I am so happy for you and your family. My neighbor
just gave birth, at home, and she is in her mid forties. No special tests. She just decided that she would have the baby even though they have two other healthy children and cannot afford the financial pain that comes with a disabled child. Fortunately, everything worked out great for her and the baby. Both are healthy. But she wouldn't ever judge another person for having to consider alternatives.

What a sweet little boy. We named my youngest son Colin...a good, strong, Scots/Irish name but be prepared for it to be mispronounced throughout his school years. :D

40. Argh, I was afraid of that
I'm half Irish, half Italian and my husband is part Irish and part Scottish, so it seemed like a nice fit. We gave our oldest son an Irish name, too. My middle name is Colleen, so we named Colin after me.

First person who pronounces it "colon" gets a punch in the face. }(
