What song is playing in the soundtrack of your life right now? Here's mine...

Just Gimme Some Truth
by John Lennon

I'm sick and tired of hearing things
From uptight, short-sighted, narrow-minded hypocritics
All I want is the truth
Just gimme some truth
Ive had enough of reading things
By neurotic, psychotic, pig-headed politicians
All I want is the truth
Just gimme some truth

No short-haired, yellow-bellied, son of tricky dicky
Is gonna mother hubbard soft soap me
With just a pocketful of hope
Money for dope
Money for rope

No short-haired, yellow-bellied, son of tricky dicky
Is gonna mother hubbard soft soap me
With just a pocketful of soap
Money for dope
Money for rope

Im sick to death of seeing things
From tight-lipped, condescending, mamas little chauvinists
All I want is the truth
Just gimme some truth now

Ive had enough of watching scenes
Of schizophrenic, ego-centric, paranoiac, prima-donnas
All I want is the truth now
Just gimme some truth

No short-haired, yellow-bellied, son of tricky dicky
Is gonna mother hubbard soft soap me
With just a pocketful of soap
Its money for dope
Money for rope

Ah, Im sick and tired of hearing things
From uptight, short-sighted, narrow-minded hypocrites
All I want is the truth now
Just gimme some truth now

Ive had enough of reading things
By neurotic, psychotic, pig-headed politicians
All I want is the truth now
Just gimme some truth now

All I want is the truth now
Just gimme some truth now
All I want is the truth
Just gimme some truth
All I want is the truth
Just gimme some truth

1. One of the great protest songs of all time.
It's been part of my mental soundtrack since the first time I heard it the week that album came out.

2. "It's savage and it's cruel and it shines like destruction..."
Love is a stranger
In an open car
To tempt you in
And drive you far away

And I want you
And I want you
And I want you so
Its an obsession

Love is a danger
Of a different kind
To take you away
And leave you far behind
And love love love
Is a dangerous drug
You have to receive it
And you still cant
Get enough of the stuff

Its savage and its cruel
And it shines like destruction
Comes in like the flood
And it seems like religion
Its noble and its brutal
It distorts and deranges
And it wrenches you up
And youre left like a zombie

And I want you
And I want you
And I want you so
Its an obsession

Its guilt edged
Glamorous and sleek by design
You know its jealous by nature
False and unkind
Its hard and restrained
And its totally cool
It touches and it teases
As you stumble in the debris

And I want you
And I want you
And I want you so
Its an obsession

I am currently stumbling blind and drunken in the debris,
so that song has a special place in my life right now.

3. Talkin About a Revolution - Tracy Chapman
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SKYWOwWAguk&feature=related

Dont you know
Theyre talkinabout a revolution
It sounds like a whisper
Dont you know
Theyre talkinabout a revolution
It sounds like a whisper

While theyre standing in the welfare lines
Crying at the doorsteps of those armies of salvation
Wasting time in the unemployment lines
Sitting around waiting for a promotion

Dont you know
They're talkinabout a revolution
It sounds like a whisper

Poor people gonna rise up
And get their share
Poor people gonna rise up
And take whats theirs

Dont you knowYou better run,run,run...
Oh it said you better
Run,run,run...

Cause finally the tables are starting to turn
Talkinbout a revolution
Yes,finally the tables are starting to turn
Talkinbout a revolution oh no
Talkinbout a revolution oh
While theyre standing in the welfare lines
Crying at the doorsteps of those armies of salvation
Wasting time in the unemployment lines
Sitting around waitinf for a promotion

Dont you know
Theyre talkinabout a revolution
It sounds like a whisper

And finally the tables are starting to turn
Talkinbout a revolution
Yes,finally the tables are starting to turn
Talkinbout a revolution oh no
Talkinbout a revolution oh no
Talkinbout a revolution oh no

4. "A Velvet Ressurection" - Legendary Pink Dots
I want to believe in the nobility of the human spirit.
I want to believe that mankind is essentially good,
and that the horror I see and the horrors I hear about
are simply the last cries of a dying spectre that haunted our fragile globe for just too long.

I want to believe that we are about to peel off the mask
with which this spiteful god has been frightening us.
I want to believe that we will not dance on his defeated rotting body,
for that would grant him victory in death.

I want to believe that we will peel away the masks with which we frighten each other.
I want to believe that no new spectre will replace the one that died,
and that we can stand alone and respect one another, love one another,
respect and cherish life in all its shapes and sizes while continuing to evolve.

I want to believe that mankind will never be too arrogant to abandon it's quest for the ultimate answer.
I want to believe that this 'ultimate answer' remains a simple question.
I want to believe that even I could answer this question.
I want to believe all of these things.
I want to believe all of these things and more.

But you caught me at a bad moment and I can't.

5. In the Sun
Just the last several months.....In the Sun by Joseph Arthur

I Picture You In The Sun
Wondering
What Went Wrong
And Falling Down On Your Knees
Asking For
Sympathy
And Being Caught In Between
All You Wish For
And All You Seen
And Trying To Find Anything
You Can Feel
That You Can Believe In

May God's Love Be With You
Always
May God's Love Be With You
Always
May God's Love Be With You

I Know I Would Apologize
If I Could
See Your Eyes
'Cause When You Showed Me Myself You Know
I Became
Someone Else
But I Was Caught In Between
All You Wish For And All You Need
I Picture You Fast Asleep
A Nightmare Comes
You Cant Keep Awake

May God's Love Be With You
Always
May God's Love Be With You
Always
May God's Love Be With You
Always
May God's Love Be With You

'Cause If I Find
If I Find My Own Way
How Much Will I Find?
If I Find
If I Find My Own Way
How Much Will I Find?
You

Well I Dont Know Anymore
What Its For
I'm Not Even Sure
If There Is Anyone
Who Is In The Sun
Will You Help Me To Understand?
'Cause I Been Caught In Between
All I Wish For And All I Need
Maybe You're Not Even Sure
What It's For
Anymore Than Me

May God's Love Be With You
Always
May God's Love Be With You
Always
May God's Love Be With You
Always
May God's Love Be With You

'Cause If I Find
If I Find My Own Way
How Much Will I Find?
If I Find
If I Find My Own Way
How Much Will I Find?
'Cause If I Find
If I Find My Own Way
How Much Will I Find?
If I Find
If I Find My Own Way
How Much Will I Find?
You

9. Alice Peacock - I'll Start With Me
Edited on Mon Feb-16-09 11:30 AM by NorthCarolina
I'll Start With Me
Written by Emily Sailors (of the Indigo Girls)
Vocals by Alice Peacock

Well, we do okay with the things God gave us,
But, will it be enough when it's time to save us.
One in three can't read, so many mouths to feed,
We just sit and wait like a loaded gun,
We cloak ourselves in the great tradition,
The United States of acquisition.

Every man for himself, it's just me and no one else,
Will we ever learn there's a price to pay.

America the free, wake up from your fantasy,
Is the nation so divided we can't see.
That there's work to be done, somethin' there for everyone,
I know - I'll start with me.

Six o'clock it's another story, gunman down in a blaze of glory,
Only ten years old, makes my blood run cold,
And the press descends like birds of prey.

Politicians stay in office, far too long to vote their conscience,
Lobbied, bought and sold, trading votes for gold,
They've forgotten that they work for us.

America the free, wake up from your fantasy,
Is the nation so divided we can't see.
That there's work to be done, somethin' there for everyone,
I know - I'll start with me.

For the beast to stay alive, it has to feed,
That's why in times of peace, they create an enemy,
What we called the big, red scare is just my neighbor over there,
With hopes and dreams, the same as me.

America the free, wake up from your fantasy,
Is the nation so divided we can't see.
That there's work to be done, somethin' there for everyone,
I know - I'll start with me.

Well, we do okay with the things God gave us...

10. There's always a Van song in my mind.
Bright Side of the Road

From the dark end of the street
To the bright side of the road
Well be lovers once again on the
Bright side of the road

Little darlin, come with me
Wont you help me share my load
From the dark end of the street
To the bright side of the road

Into this life were born
Baby sometimes we dont know why
And time seems to go by so fast
In the twinkling of an eye

Lets enjoy it while we can
Wont you help me sing my song
From the dark end of the street
To the bright side of the road

From the dark end of the street
To the bright side of the road
Well be lovers once again
On the bright side of the road
Well be lovers once again on the bright side of the road

16. RIPPLE: Grateful Dead
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lVdTQ3OPtGY

If my words did glow with the gold of sunshine
And my tunes were played on the harp unstrung,
Would you hear my voice come thru the music,
Would you hold it near as it were your own?

It's a hand-me-down, the thoughts are broken,
Perhaps they're better left unsung.
I don't know, don't really care
Let there be songs to fill the air.

Ripple in still water,
When there is no pebble tossed,
Nor wind to blow.

Reach out your hand if your cup be empty,
If your cup is full may it be again,
Let it be known there is a fountain,
That was not made by the hands of men.

There is a road, no simple highway,
Between the dawn and the dark of night,
And if you go no one may follow,
That path is for your steps alone.

Ripple in still water,
When there is no pebble tossed,
Nor wind to blow.

You who choose to lead must follow
But if you fall you fall alone,
If you should stand then who's to guide you?
If I knew the way I would take you home.

La dee da da da, La da da da da, Da da da, Da da, Da da da da da
La da da da, La da da, Da da, La da da da, La da, Da da.

17. Both Sides Now
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bcrEqIpi6sg
Rows and floes of angel hair
And ice cream castles in the air
And feather canyons evrywhere
Ive looked at clouds that way

But now they only block the sun
They rain and snow on evryone
So many things I would have done
But clouds got in my way
Ive looked at clouds from both sides now
From up and down, and still somehow
Its cloud illusions I recall
I really dont know clouds at all

Moons and junes and ferris wheels
The dizzy dancing way you feel
As evry fairy tale comes real
Ive looked at love that way

But now its just another show
You leave em laughing when you go
And if you care, dont let them know
Dont give yourself away

Ive looked at love from both sides now
From give and take, and still somehow
Its loves illusions I recall
I really dont know love at all

Tears and fears and feeling proud
To say I love you right out loud
Dreams and schemes and circus crowds
Ive looked at life that way

But now old friends are acting strange
They shake their heads, they say Ive changed
Well somethings lost, but somethings gained
In living evry day

Ive looked at life from both sides now
From win and lose and still somehow
Its lifes illusions I recall
I really dont know life at all
Ive looked at life from both sides now
From up and down, and still somehow
Its lifes illusions I recall
I really dont know life at all

Edited on Mon Feb-16-09 12:41 PM by SOS
No peace for the wicked - only war on the poor
They're batting on pickets - trying to even the score
Oh an equal chance and an equal say
But equally there's no equal pay
There's room on top - if you tow the line
And if you believe all this you must be out of your mind

If you work hard you can be the boss
But if you don't work at all then that's nobody's loss
There's room on top - if you dig in low
And the idea is what they reap you sow

With an old school tie and a reference
You can cover up crimes in their defence
It's all thrown in and the lies come free
And you can be all that they want you to be

23. Marilyn Manson - (S)aint...
I don't care if your world
is ending today
because I wasn't invited to it anyway
you said I tasted famous so I drew you a heart
but now, I'm not an artist
I'm a fucking work of art

I got an F and a C and I got a K too
and the only thing that's missing is a bitch like U

You wanted perfekt, you've got your perfect now
I'm too perfect for someone like you
I was a dandy in your ghetto with the snow white smile
But you'll never be as perfect whatever you do

What's my name, what's my name?
Ah, ah-ah, ah-ah
Hold the S because I am an AINT
What's my name, whats my name?
Ah, ah-ah, ah-ah
hold the S because I am an AINT

Ah, ah-ah, ah-ah
Ah, ah-ah, ah-ah

I am a bone sop, a death's head
on a mop-stick,
you infected me,
took diamonds,
I took all your shit
your sell by date expired so you had to be sold
I'm a suffer genious
and vivi-sex symbol

You wanted perfect, you've got your perfekt now
I'm too perfect for someone like you
I was a dandy in your ghetto with the snow white smile
But you'll never be as perfect whatever you do

Whats my name, whats my name?
Ah, ah-ah, ah-ah
Hold the S because I am an AINT
whats my name, whats my name?
Ah, ah-ah, ah-ah
Hold the S because I am an AINT

Ah, ah-ah, ah-ah
Ah, ah-ah, ah-ah

(whispered)
I got an F and a C and I got a K too,
and the only thing thats missing is U
(yelled)
I got an F and a C and I got a K too,
and the only thing thats missing is a bitch like U

I am the dandy in the ghetto with a snow white smile
super ego bitch, I've been evil a while

I am the dandy in the ghetto with a snow white smile
super ego bitch, I've been evil a while

Chorus.

25. My Chemical Romance's cover of Dylan's "Desolation Row"
from the upcoming movie "Watchmen"

They're selling postcards of the hanging
They're painting the passports brown
The beauty parlor is filled with sailors
The circus is in town

Here comes the blind commissioner
They've got him in a trance
One hand is tied to the tight rope walker
The other is in his pants and the riot squad

They're restless
They need somewhere to go
As lady and I look out tonight
From desolation row

Cinderella, she seems so easy
It takes one to know one
She smiles and puts her hands in her back pockets
Bette Davis style and in comes Romeo
He's moaning, "You belong to me I believe"

And someone says
"You're in the wrong place, my friend, you better leave"
And the only sound that's left after the ambulances go
Is Cinderella sweeping up on desolation row

Now the moon is almost hidden
The stars are beginning to hide
The fortune telling lady has even taken all her things inside
All except for Cain and Abel and the hunchback of Notre Dame

Everybody is making love or else expecting rain
And the Good Samaritan, he's dressing
He's getting ready for the show
He's going to the carnival tonight on desolation row

Now Ophelia, she's 'neath the window
For her I feel so afraid
On her twenty-second birthday
She already is an old maid

To her death is quite romantic
She wears an iron vest
Her profession's her religion
Her sin is her lifelessness

And though her eyes
Are fixed upon Noah's great rainbow
She spends her time peeking
Into desolation row

Einstein, disguised as Robin Hood
With his memories in a trunk
Passed this way an hour ago with his friend
A jealous monk, he looked so immaculately frightful
As he bummed a cigarette

Then he went off sniffing drainpipes
And reciting the alphabet
Now you would not think to look at him
But he was famous long ago
For playing the electric violin on desolation row

Dr. Filth, he keeps his world
Inside of a leather cup
But all his sexless patients
They're trying to blow it up

Now his nurse, some local loser
She's in charge of the cyanide hole
And she also keeps the cards that read
Have Mercy on His Soul

They all play on penny whistles
You can hear them blow
If you lean your head out far enough
From desolation row

Across the street they've nailed the curtains
They're getting ready for the feast
The Phantom of the Opera
A perfect image of a priest

They're spoon feeding Casanova
To get him to feel more assured
Then they'll kill him with self-confidence
After poisoning him with words

And the Phantom's shouting to skinny girls
Get outa here if you don't know
Casanova is just being punished
For going to desolation row

Now at midnight all the agents
And the superhuman crew
Come out and round up everyone
That knows more than they do

Then they bring them to the factory
Where the heart-attack machine
Is strapped across their shoulders

And then the kerosene
Is brought down from the castles
By insurance men who go check to see
That nobody is escaping to desolation row

Praise be to Nero's Neptune
The Titanic sails at dawn
And everybody's shouting
Which side are you on?

And Ezra Pound and T. S. Eliot
Fighting in the captain's tower
While calypso singers laugh at them

And fishermen hold flowers
Between the windows of the sea
Where lovely mermaids flow
And nobody has to think too much about desolation row

Yes, I received your letter yesterday
(About the time the door knob broke)
When you asked how I was doing
Was that some kind of joke?

All these people that you mention
Yes, I know them, they're quite lame
I had to rearrange their faces
And give them all another name

Right now I can't read too good
Don't send me no more letters, no
Not unless you mail them
From desolation row

40. Don't worry, Dylan himself is represented on the same soundtrack.
The opening credits of the film have Dylan's "The Times They Are A Changin'".

The title of each of the 12 chapters in the graphic novel are lines from songs.

The title for one chapter is "At Midnight, All the Agents...", and another is "All Along the Watchtower.." (which is also on the soundtrack, the Hendrix version).

43. Any Major Dude: One of my favorites on a favorite album.
I discovered Steely Dan in 1978 with the release of Aja. I loved that album, and still rate it as one of the best. I then began working backward and just really got stuck on Pretzel Logic. Their music came around at just the right time in my life. Then Gaucho came out and blew me away.

I just got my turntable working again so I'm putting Pretzel Logic on when I get home.

As sung by Bonnie Raitt:

I can't believe the things I've seen
I wonder bout some things I've heard
Everybody's crying mercy
When they don't know the meaning of the word

A bad enough situation
Is sure enough getting worse
Everybody's crying justice
Just as long as there's business first
Toe to toe
Touch and go
Give a cheer
Get your souvenier

People running round in circles
Don't know what they're headed for
Everybody's crying peace on Earth
Just as soon as we win this war

Straight ahead
Knock em dead
Pack your kid
Choose your hypocrite

Well you don't have to go to off broadway
To see something played absurd
Everybody's crying mercy
When they don't know the meaning of the word

Nobody knows the meaning of the word
When they don't know the meaning of the word
Nobody knows the meaning of the word
Nobody knows the meaning of the word

32. Deceptively cheerful Dylan song
When The Ship Comes In

Oh the time will come up
When the winds will stop
And the breeze will cease to be breathin'.
Like the stillness in the wind
'Fore the hurricane begins,
The hour when the ship comes in.

Oh the seas will split
And the ship will hit
And the sands on the shoreline will be shaking.
Then the tide will sound
And the wind will pound
And the morning will be breaking.

Oh the fishes will laugh
As they swim out of the path
And the seagulls they'll be smiling.
And the rocks on the sand
Will proudly stand,
The hour that the ship comes in.

And the words that are used
For to get the ship confused
Will not be understood as they're spoken.
For the chains of the sea
Will have busted in the night
And will be buried at the bottom of the ocean.

A song will lift
As the mainsail shifts
And the boat drifts on to the shoreline.
And the sun will respect
Every face on the deck,
The hour that the ship comes in.

Then the sands will roll
Out a carpet of gold
For your weary toes to be a-touchin'.
And the ship's wise men
Will remind you once again
That the whole wide world is watchin'.

Oh the foes will rise
With the sleep still in their eyes
And they'll jerk from their beds and think they're dreamin'.
But they'll pinch themselves and squeal
And know that it's for real,
The hour when the ship comes in.

Then they'll raise their hands,
Sayin' we'll meet all your demands,
But we'll shout from the bow your days are numbered.
And like Pharaoh's tribe,
They'll be drownded in the tide,
And like Goliath, they'll be conquered.

36. Pantera Fucking Hostile
sorry, we still have a right wing government in France

Almost every day
I see the same face
On broken picture tube
It fits the attitude
If you could see yourself
You put you on a shelf
Your verbal masturbate
Promise to nauseate
Today Ill play the part of non-parent
Not make a hundred rules
For you to know about yourself
Not lie and make you believe
Whats evil is making love
And making friends
And meeting God youre own way
The right way

(chorus) to see
To bleed
Cannot be taught
In turn
Youre making us
Fucking hostile

We stand alone

The truth in right and wrong
The boundaries of the law
You seem to miss the point
Arresting for a joint?
You seem to wonder why
Hundreds of people die
Youre writing tickets man
My mom got jumped -- they ran!
Now Ill play a public servant
To serve and protect
By the law and the state
Id bust the punks
That rape steal and murder
And leave you be
If you crossed me
Id shake your hand like a man
Not a god

(chorus)

Come meet your maker, boy
Some things you cant enjoy
Because of heaven/hell
A fucking wives tale
They put it in your head
Then put you in your bed
Hes watching say your prayers
Cause God is everywhere
Now Ill play a man learning priesthood
Whos about to take the ultimate test in life
Id question things because I am human
And call no one my father whos no closer that a stranger

I wont listen

(chorus)

42. I have no idea why, but it's been playing all day...
Spill the wine and take that pearl, Spill the wine and take that pearl
Spill the wine and take that pearl, Spill the wine and take that pearl

I was once out strolling one very hot summer's day
When I thought I'd lay myself down to rest
in a big field of tall grass
I lay there in the sun and felt it caressing my face

And I fell asleep and dreamed
I dreamed I was in a Hollywood movie
And that I was the star of the movie
This really blew my mind, the fact that me,
an overfed, long-haired leaping gnome
should be the star of a Hollywood movie

But there I was, I was taken to a place, the hall of the mountain kings
I stood high upon a mountain top, naked to the world
In front of every kind of girl, there was
black ones, round ones, big ones, crazy ones...

Out of the middle came a lady
She whispered in my ear something crazy
She said:

Spill the wine and take that pearl, Spill the wine and take that pearl
Spill the wine and take that pearl, Spill the wine and take that pearl

I thought to myself what could that mean
Am I going crazy or is this just a dream
Now, wait a minute
I know I'm lying in a field of grass somewhere
so it's all in my head
and then.. I heard her say one more time:

Spill the wine and take that pearl, Spill the wine and take that pearl
Spill the wine and take that pearl, Spill the wine and take that pearl

I could feel hot flames of fire roaring at my back
As she disappeared, but soon she returned
In her hand was a bottle of wine, in the other, a glass
She poured some of the wine from the bottle into the glass
And raised it to her lips
And just before she drank it, she said:

Spill the wine and take that pearl, Spill the wine and take that pearl
Spill the wine and take that pearl, Spill the wine and take that pearl
