U.S. Army may take back Silver Star awarded to Pat Tillman

http://blogs.usatoday.com/ondeadline/2007/03/should_the_us_a.html

<snip>

With the Pentagon expected to release a report today that calls for nine officers to be punished in connection with a former football player's death, one reporter says some officials are asking whether the U.S. Army should take back the Silver Star that it awarded to Pat Tillman after he was killed during a 2004 firefight in Afghanistan that is now acknowledged as a tragic case of fratricide.

CNN's Pentagon correspondent just mentioned during a live interview that the military may "recall" the commendation because his death doesn't meet the criteria for the award, which requires "gallantry in action against an enemy of the United States while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an opposing foreign force."

2. Sounds brilliant. How about removing all advancement
and awards to those who killed him and those who covered it up?

Well, I guess there is no limit to their pettiness if his family doesn't
stick to the game plan for Chucklenuts and The Cabal. That'll teach them for demanding the truth.

Have I mentioned today that I hate DimSon the Dictatortot?

above all else. It'd be a great black comedy if this weren't real people's grief they were toying with.

7. Please, please let them try this
Enough people are aware of this sorry episode that the outrage would reach the MSM and add more fuel to the bonfire that's already licking at their ankles.

Have you no sympathy at all for the man's family? Haven't they been through enough?

8. Since they gave him the medals
to aid their cover-up in the first place; if I was his family, I'd throw them back into their lying faces.

9. yup. should do
along with a heartfelt apology for giving the award erronously in the first place, and the heads of the assholes who lied and covered up.

note: this is not his platoon, or anyone involved in the incident, from all reports, that is simply fog of war issues, which unfortunately happen in war (which is one reason war sucks) their reports said it was friendly fire, they copped, for the most part, and were used by the brass.

10. He did meet the criteria. He came back to help the other troops
who had been ambushed. It's not his fault that the other troops killed him by accident.

11. assholes...
so instead of the story being about lies told by the military to advertise their war, the story will be about 'meeting criteria' for a medal???

13. What? We are our own worst enemy right now. I think that would
still qualify that poor soul to keep his medal, even though it's a hollow award for a disgusting display of military ineptitude and amazing lying after the fact.

14. Feel Sorry for the Guy
I somewhat feel sorry for the guy, but I have to agree with them taking the award away from him. He did not do anything that rose to the level of being awarded a silver star. However, if they take his away they need to take the other girl's award away. The one they tried to make out to be a female Rambo. Tillman did more than she did to earn his medal. As far as I know she was knocked out throughout the whole attack and never shoot off a bullet. I cannot remember her name, but I think it is Jessica Lynch.

16. Pat Tillman was in the process....
...of pulling a wounded fellow Ranger out of the line of fire when he came under friendly fire. I say he keeps the gong and gets a Soldier's Medal on top of it.

21. Why doesn't he qualify. He was engaged in military operations with ...
an opposing foreign force. He'd shown gallantry by going into the military when he didn't have to. And his death was caused by enemies of the U.S. in the Administration and in the Pentagon who screwed up U.S. military activities in Afghanistan.
