$963,083 v. 4 billion. Because there aren't enough threads castigating N. Suleman.
Among the allegations by the mindreaders at DU, she had her babies to sit back & live off SSI disability payments of $972.00 per child per month to the tune of $13,608 per month for 14 kids.

http://www.ssa.gov/pubs/11125.html

Monthly SSI payment amounts

"The amounts INCLUDE BOTH FEDERAL & STATE PAYMENTS COMBINED. NOT ALL SSI RECIPIENTS RECEIVE THE MAXIMUM amount. Your payment may be lower if you have other income:"

Disabled minor child in household of another: $557.34

*No food stamps, either:

"People who get SSI in California cannot get food stamps because the state adds money to the federal SSI payment instead."

So let's see: each kid, if "disabled," *might* get as much as $557.34/mo, $4458.72/mo for 8, $53,504.64/yr, $963,083.52 total over 18 years - less than 1 million to support 8 kids until they're adults.

Course, if Nadya gets any million-dollar book/interview deals, donations, or other income, the gov't payments will be reduced correspondingly.

Meanwhile, the top 1.5% of Merril Lynch employees got 4 BILLION DOLLARS in BONUSES on 2008 INCOME which was apparently much less than 1 billion:

http://ir.ml.com/quick.cfm?section=netrevenue

Average bonus = 5.7 million dollars.

Wait, if Merrill Lynch didn't make money in 2008, WHO PAID FOR THE BONUSES???

Oh, yeah....but they're rich, they "worked," so we can't hate on them!

Its not a case of either/or; you're setting up a false logical dilemma.

3. You are aware
that the care for the latest 8 alone is costing CA taxpayers $32,000 a day aren't you?

Now multiply that by 8 weeks total that they will be in the hospital and that's nearly $1.8 million.

That may seem a small amount compared to other things, but if you haven't heard, CA is bankrupt at the moment and issuing IOUs to tax-paying citizens because they don't have the money to pay tax refunds. And that $1.8 million being spent to care for more children that this selfist b*tch brought into the world means that others who needed those funds for their LEGITIMATE care will likely be denied.

7. Is there some difference between those 8 kids & any other 8 medically-fragile kids
except they came from the same mother?

California isn't "bankupt". California is being run into the ground by a clique of crooks, & it's being run into the ground to destroy unions & social programs. Kind of like the federal-level crooks are doing for the nation.

Your first numbers were wrong, so no reason for me to think your new numbers are any more accurate.

Four billion for 700 already-wealthy-beyond-dreams-of-avarice banksters, 5.7 million per taxpayer-funded "bonus," in one year.

Plus the 700 billion "bailout," the something like 500 billion given out earlier by less discussed, & the new bailouts coming.

20. The person to blame for Nadya Suleman's rough road is Nadya Suleman.
She is getting bounced around in the media and IMO she deserves most of what she's getting.

Your comparing her to titanic financial entities is specious.

If you were to consult 100 psychotherapists on whether an unemployed single woman diagnosed with multiple mental disorders, including Depression and Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome, should be taking care of 14 children, all under the age of 7 or 8, and at least one of them autistic, my hunch is that an overwhelming majority of them would tell you 'No.'

The notion that she's cashing in on the celebrity of her fertility stunt makes her position all the more repellent.

at the woman with 14 children who hires a publicity coordinator.

As well, an alert accountant might note that the procedure Ms. Suleman underwent at this specific clinic is not cheap. It costs a whole bunch, is my guess.

Very few struggling moms dump their 14 under-7 kids with grandma to appear on MSNBC.

Jolie, Gosselins, Duggars, et al.

Oops, she miscalculated, the media give & the media take away. She got in late on the curve & she made her desire & need too transparent.

If they didn't think the proles would slurp it up, & if they didn't WANT the proles to slurp it up, along with the rest of their mind-control CRAP, it wouldn't be on the TV.

Nadya Suleman is a deluded little girl. She has no control over media exec's programming decisions.

I could hire 20 PR agents, do you think they can get me on TV so I can lecture the nation about the benefits of communism & how phony media-created reality is & how the same ruling class families have been entrenched for 300 years?

No, they only put idiots & shills on. and delusional girls who want to be famous for mothering, so they can make fun of & destroy what they themselves created.

These children's mom is essentially one more child in the household, as a thoughtful poster indicated downthread.

But we navigate the facts as they come to us, and Nadya Suleman is the architect of her own publicity campaign. You and I did not urge her on that path. You and I did not drive her to that clinic. You and I did not force her to sign the consent contract.

Ms. Suleman, for whatever human attributes she carries, is the solo perpetrator against her own dignity.

the "high-functioning" folk you speak of are types who can e.g. hold down a job while simultaneously believing e.g. in ufo's.

catch 22 - she's both "nutty" & "responsible," ergo everyone should join in making fun of her, calling her a piece of shit, etc.

Even Dr. Dysart knew that "advanced neurotics aim unswervingly at the area of one's maximum vulnerability."

And Dr. Dysart knows from horse gouging, let me tell you.

No one I've seen on DU or elsewhere is opposed to assistance for those younguns, including to the extent where the State of California steps in an yanks them away from their unstable mother.

not to mention their tendency to be an echo chamber for the thoughts & pronouncements of their "professional" groups, which tend to be run by highly-placed spooks whose practices encompass a long litany of crimes?

I don't give a rip for the idiotic pronouncements of such persons. according to which 15% of children have something called "adhd" & need to take amphetamines, another 5% are depressed & need different drugs...if you add up the bullshit, most of the population is abnormal & needs expensive drugs.

certainly splahsed down face-first in your defense this evening of a high-functinoing neurotic / depressive with a publicist.

You are going to have to wear those socks for some weeks while the media, such as they are, take a more scrutinous glimpse at Ms. Suleman's accounts.

Both her bank accounts and her emotional accounts.

The same media that will pay her for photos of those younguns may also get a very revealing interview from her own mom.

All's fair in love, so they say.

Thus her octobirth was a matter of her personal consent and plan.

It is the strong impression that she did so not only willingly but perhaps manipulatively.

The clinic is legal. The procedure is legal.

It's Ms. Suleman's judgment that is in question.

35. Yes, and she deserves help. Anyone who needs help should get it,
including Ms. Suleman and it is my deep hope that she can be persuaded to seek it.

My fear is that once the cable news and gossip pages start to really humming, those babies will become fodder for her delusions.

The babies deserve more support than they seem likely to receive.

36. My whole philosophy is that people don't have much choice
in what they do. I believe in help without judgment.

41. I'm supportive of help but the psychology of intervention is often
the first imperative.

Eight new babies are going to need some time, time that might have been more generously distributed to them and their 6 siblings were their mother not in interviews with cable news and other media.

One either makes value judgments or one does not get through the streeets of one's town.

When the neighbor guy is beating his kids in the back yard, you make a value judgment and you call Child Protectiv Services.

Ms. Suleman appears to me to be angelic in her sincerity, but my strong guess is that she will be the parent of those 14 children for not a very long time to come.

45. She is the 15th child in that family.
14 children would tax any family of almost any wealth. It's fortunate that out of 300,000,000 people ,there is only one Ms Suleman.

46. Agree. Her adulation of a film star known also for her foreign
adoptions is sweet-natured and apparently genuine, but decidedly child-like.

She is doing this almost by herself. Some male donor contributed the little spermy dude but beyond that specific contribution, the rest of it has been pretty much her show.

Her own mother is "sick and tired" of care-giving for the other 6 children. Now a chorus of 8 more night crying babies will further fill the home.

Their child-mother needs to dig a bit deeper and pick up the phone and ask for help.

23. Most excellent post! That's so cool you did all the math....really
puts it in perspective.

I'm hoping that people will volunteer to help her with the babies. I know that if I lived nearby I would volunteer. I can't worry about where the mom's head is really or why she did what she did. I just keep thinking about all those little babies needing to be held and fed and changed. I only had one and it exhausted me.

Thanks for your thread!

67. In big families the older kids do a lot of the work.
I don't know how it will work out with her family as they're all pretty young but I have a sister four years older who was pretty good at it from as early as I can remember, so she must have been about six. Also this lady's mother sounds pretty sensible and is a former teacher so as long as she holds out I imagine she'll make sure everything get done. But man oh man that's a lot of birthday parties!

38. Give her a mental health exam and get back to me. This has nothing
to do with money and everything to do with her frame of mind and how she can possibly take care of 14 kids responsibly.
But it also has to do with the attention the new babies might get, need, deserve. They all need attention. With that mom, unless it turns commercial, I don't see it.

48. "piece of shit". right, there speaks sober reason. she murdered 1 million iraqis? no?
she stole the retirements of 1 million americans? no?

she made trillions of dollars in bad bets & crashed the world economy, putting millions out of work & raising food prices on starving third world villagers, & then took billions in taxpayer money to shore up the bad bets & pay bonuses to the fraudsters? no?

oh, she had 8 babies who might end up on the public purse?

wow, crime beyond crime. damn piece of shit. arrest her, jail her, kill her. it's people like her who are ruining everything.

and ending up on the public purse is not even at the top of my problems with that piece who shit having so many kids.

55. The Duggars have what, 18? Bradjelina have how many?
When people say it's not about the money, it's all about the money.

There wouldn't be 7 threads running about this woman if she were independently wealthy, even if she'd earned her money by selling armaments or mining slave labor copper in africa.

56. yeah, and we make fun of the Duggars all the time, Angelina adopted half of hers
if she was independently wealthy she might not have had so many kids in order to get more money from what she hoped were deals for tv shows, books etc. for having so many kids.

Those threads mostly made fun of the Duggars.

"It's a vagina, not a clown car" nyuk, nyuk, nyuk

Not so with this other woman. This is about money, gender and race and it's a putrid, disgusting hatefest.

70. i saw more attacks on Duggars on their race and religion
with this woman i have seen it on money but it's mostly because she had the kids thinking she iwll get a lot of money with tv deals and given free things.

also her own mother is criticizing her. and people haven't really defended the Duggars as they are this woman.

72. She is NOT wealthy, independently or otherwise, and you know that.
The Duggers and the Jolie-Pitts love their kids. This woman doesn't. If she did, she wouldn't have had 8 more when her other 6 are so denied. Google her mom's comments if you don't believe that. She is most likely a loving mom, but her concept of 8 more kids?

Glory. I hope she gets busted for her glory.

K/R. I saw her interviewed on TV while I was getting a haircut a couple of weeks ago and my conclusion is that she'll probably do a better job raising her 14 kids than most manage to do with one or two.

Universal health care would make her a moot point. Automatic help should override judgment. One hesitation in care that negatively affects anybody's life is not acceptable. This is only eight, there are millions of others.
