Is there a difference between American conservatives and barbarians?
Edited on Sat Feb-07-09 01:15 PM by Cyrano
If so, someone is going to have to explain the difference to me.

Obama, and most Dems, are trying to save us from the abyss that has been eight years in the making. But conservatives need them to fail.

Put another way, conservatives want to see America fail. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't America we the people? Us? You? Me? Your family? Your friends? Other human beings whom you don't even know?

But what the hell. To those interested only in their own wealth, and absolute power, why would they give a flying fuck about anyone else?

The Dems, the American public and everyone in dire need may win a few battles this time around. But this war will go on. And it will continue until even those who drank the kool aid understand that conservatives are barbarians.

Conservatives really don't care who lives or dies, so long as they own and control everyone and everything in the entire world. Make no mistake about it. What they want, have always wanted, and always will want is -- more.

1. Not really, the barbarians were civilized
although their idea of it was different from the Roman one and their war technology wasn't as refined.

It can be argued pretty easily that the least civilized were the Romans, who turned torture and execution into blood sport for the masses.

Conservatives are the Romans.

The population of Rome initially welcomed the first barbarian groups in because they were sick of oppression by the corrupt oligarchy. Only when the barbarians stole everything that wasn't set into stone did the mood change.

They probably stole everything because no one in the world at the time had any respect for the Romans. Only fear.

"It can be argued pretty easily that the least civilized were the Romans, who turned torture and execution into blood sport for the masses."

Romans also killed their own for power, lied, cheated, stole and betrayed. Barbarians had a sense of honor.

I never thought the Romans were very civilized. They just made pretty things.

On Edit: Realized: lied, cheat, stole : todays repugs!

8. Cyrano, you do know that there are plenty of conservative Democrats, don't you?
Contrary to your claims above, we do care if people live or die.

10. There's a big difference between being conservative and being a right-wing nut.
It saddens me when people confuse the two. One can be conservative and still see the need for progressive taxation and a social safety net. We might disagree on what that social safety net should entail, but I think we can all agree that nobody should go unsheltered, unclothed, or unfed.

13. We're arguing over definitions
In today's America, the words conservative and wingnut are almost synonymous. Bush/Cheney/Limbaugh/Rove/Rumsfeld et al are what have come to be referred to as wingnuts/conservatives.

However, I do understand what you're saying. There are probably many issues you and I differ on, but I don't think you're nuts or evil. On the other hand, I think you might start describing yourself with a term other than "conservative."

Many years ago, the Republicans managed to turn the term "liberal" into a dirty word. Like it or not, current day Republicans have gone a very long way toward turning the term "conservative" into a dirty word.
