11. She's just a moderate kind of gal.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/29050187/

Collins circulated a roster proposing $88 billion worth of net cuts from the measure. She proposed eliminating money in the bill for K-12 education while boosting funding for Pentagon operations, facilities and procurement by $13 billion.

10. I've never understood how she got elected to anything with that voice.
She may have some kind of vocal dysfunction, but, that doesn't explain the sing-song, labored delivery. And the vowels are so childish. It's almost like she's an escapee from a polygamist cult.

No one complains about Charlie Rangle, Barney Frank, etc.

Folks complain about Collins, Hillary Clinton, Sarah Palin, etc.

27. Well, I don't complain about Madame Secretary's voice, but I find
LIEberman (nasally whine), Jeff Sessions (and I'm a life-long southerner with a drawl of my own), Lindsay Graham (gag), Shelby and Corker, Gingrey, Isaacson, Chambliss, and Palin, very objectionable.

28. But people don't mention that. People regularly complain about women's voices.
Think about it. On television women talk: like teenagers, with southern accents, with British accents, or in a whisper.

They don't speak boldly or in a declarative tone as men do. They do not have northern accents, except in comedy.

30. I gave you a short list of voices that irritate the hell out of me,
and they're mostly male voices who may or may not speak in declarative tones. With all of them it's what comes out of their mouths that annoys me, the accents are an additional irritant.

I suppose I'm not a people as I'm not complaining about women's voices, merely stating the voices that drive me up a wall.

35. That's simple.
What do they all have in common? They are women. No man's voice is called shrill, no man's laughter is called a cackle. Different party, but same old sh**......

16. At the right time, she had a uterus, and no track record.
Edited on Fri Feb-06-09 08:05 PM by Davis_X_Machina
When Collins ran for the Senate the first time, there was a splendid old-school Dem, Joe Brennan -- former state AG, two-term governor, two-term US Rep, the man who appointed George Mitchell to the Senate, among other things, running against her.

But the country was doing well in '96, and people didn't think politicians should have any political experience, and there was no difference between the parties, and Joe was so yesterday, and a man. So Collins, whose only civilian job was as a campaign consultant to other GOP campaigns, won, with the help of a Green Party candidate, Rensenbrink, who split the Dem vote, and Dem women, who thought having two women senators would send a message.

And now, with the power of the incumbency, and thanks to our state's fixation with 'independents' and non-partisanship (James Longley, Angus King) we'll never get rid of her.

She's an idiot. She may be the dumbest member of the Senate, Inhofe et al. not excluded. One of my old students works in her constituency service operation, and he thinks she's the dumbest member of the Senate. She is certainly 100% run by her staff, and lobbyists. But she's relatively quiet, so she gets away with it.

12. People associate female authority with elementary school teachers. It's a real barrier.
And it creates resentment.

Get over it.

ps. The Senate does behave like a kindergarten class.

29. There you go.
People associate women in authority with elementary school teachers.

It takes us back to when we were kids and listening to it, we pre-reflectively feel - diminishes us.
