Stalking the Shadows: Stranded (poem)
Stranded
My family and I
On the Island of Woe
Castaways of the "richest" economy
No raft to row
No safe port to which we could go

Shock wearing off
Pain is setting in
Health and hearth is crumbling
And coins blown away by winter winds
Where there should be love only stress and sorrow
Partners becoming strangers
Marriage strained with little hope of tomorrows

Judged for the sins of sickness
And being past our prime
Or simply greedy Barons
Grasping tightly their piece of the pie
Offering none to those that crown them
Even if the "subjects" must die

Every fool for themselves
Even if it costs us all
No will to save us that can be saved
Expendable in the inevitable empire's fall.
There's enough of us stranded I trust
That the entire Navy couldn't find us.

We light the signal fires
Cast our message filled bottles into the foam
But our roof won't keep out the storm
Brewing in the tides outside the door
Hope can't rescue us in time
And we drown if we swim for shore.

No treasure or provision will we find
Tarzan won't swing in to save the day
They should have pushed more "Crusoe" in school
And maybe we could find a way
Broken and battered
Surrounded by darkened skies and seas
So useless that pirates won't even hire me.

So here we sit
Island of Woe
In hostile waters, no rescue to see.
How long can we last together?
When she could survive if I let her be free
I should walk into the ocean's cold embrace
For the sake of my love, My Goddess of the Sea.
So perhaps again there might be a smile upon her face
-S

1. Yikes! Don't do it!
Try to cheer up. I know it sounds trite but there is always something to be happy about. Help someone even less fortunate than yourself. Listen to(or play) music. Take a walk. Don't worry, be happy. I'm broke too.

2. One kick for the night crew
Sorry for the shameless self plug but this one was difficult to write. Like some feedback.
