The "Know-Nothing" faction of the GOP will take over from the neocons

You can thank the craptastic economy and anger over immigration for this one

I know a lot of DUers think that the GOP is one big happy dysfunctional family,
but it aint so. George Bush is a neocon sucessfully palmed off as a "family values"
politician to the Religious Right, and the con job was successful for ten years or so.

But not all the Pubbies bought it. Just Google the phrase "Jorge Bush" and you'll
see what I mean. There always was a lot of anger over immigration amongst the
Republican base, but they held their collective noses and voted "R" in the
belief that the Republicans were better than Dems. Now they feel betrayed.

Go suppress your gag reflex and take a look at Free Republic. See the anger over Michael
Steele's election to the chair of the RNC. Go look at the hay the British National Party
is making over labor unrest in the UK.

It's gonna happen, and it won't be pretty.

1. You don't have to be a Republican

to be rightfully angry over immigration and trade policies that have combined to dispossess US workers in the lower and middle classes.

This country needs jobs, not more people. Foreigners should be asked to go home so that US workers can have US jobs. They can come back when we have a job surplus.

2. Their base created a giant problem for them with the immigration issue

first of all they rose up, which no one expected

secondly in appeasing the racist xenophobic anti-"immgiration" element they made Latinos basically kissing cousins of terrorist and it may be years before they can heal those wounds.

3. The republican party is dead. It has been on life support and

fighting to breath for quite a while. We are witnessing the last days of this party in our life time. It has happened in this country before. The political mind has change many times since 1776 and it will change again. The question we face in the future is, what will this monster morph into next? There are a lot of bigots out there but I'm hopeful most people in this country care about each other. That is part of the reason Obama was elected.

It took 100 years from the days that Benjamin Franklin harnessed electricity for it to be tamed and used for our benefit. Along with that there was an evolution in mankind's brain that can be proven scientifically. These types of changes will cause a paradigm shift in politics that will leave the dead wood behind. But some of the dead wood will resist and it will be a struggle.

So, sit back. Grab a box of popcorn and enjoy the show of life.

4. This is a going to be a *BIG* problem for Democrats, too...

...If the unemployment rate goes to where my bones tell me it is going to. An honorable concern for
individual immigrants has turned into a de facto codependency with a dysfunctional
Mexican government. We can't afford to be their economic safety valve anymore.

The Republicans won't be the only party to split over immigation/border issues. The DNC and/or
the Obama administration isn't going to say *anything* about the near-anarchy and violence
in northern Mexican cities until events force their hand.

5. Steele's election is gonna be a boon for us!

Considering that he was called a racist by former Ku Klux Klan Grand Wizard David Duke - this bodes for one hell of a food fight...
