1. Sounds a bit high...
my income is in the lower end of that range, and I got only $137. Then again, I'm single with no children.

I recall it was $600 for a single, $1200 for married couples, $300 for each eligible child. I did not qualify for any of it so I have to check.

Edit..just checked...

A. Your economic stimulus payment is based on information provided on your 2007 income tax return.

Many, but not all, taxpayers qualify for the maximum basic payment of $600 for singles or $1,200 for married couples. Many parents are also receiving an additional $300 for each qualifying child, born after Dec. 31, 1990.

Your payment may be less than the maximum for one or more of the following reasons:

* You are single and your net income tax liability is less than $600. If you file Form 1040 net income tax liability is the amount shown on Line 57, plus the amount on Line 52.
* You are married and your net income tax liability is less than $1,200.
* You are single and your adjusted gross income (AGI) is more than $75,000. On Form 1040, AGI is the amount on Line 37.
* You are married filing a joint return and your AGI is more than $150,000.
* You married but filing separately and will receive your payment as if you were single.
* You owe back taxes.
* You have non-tax federal debts such as unpaid student loans or child-support obligations.

Around the same time you received your payment, you received a notice from the IRS explaining how your payment was figured. It is important to keep this notice as a record of your economic stimulus payment. If a portion of your payment was offset to pay back taxes or non-tax debts you will receive an additional notice providing details on the offset several weeks after your payment has arrived.

4. You can look it up...
at irs.gov website. I had to for our taxes and just typed in my SS number and the amount came up. Hope that helps. I don't remember exactly where I found it on the site, but I hope that helps if you want to make certain of the amount.

5. you can check it on a web site
If you use Tax Cut, the interview instructions tell you where the web site is and how to use it. I don't remember the details offhand. Many people got less than $1500.

6. I haven't done my taxes yet - do i understand you to be saying that we have
to report the stimulus check as income? or is it deducted from the refund? I thought it was supposed to be a freeby!

7. No need to declare that money as income.
As I remember, with the check was a letter saying there would be no tax consequences because of that money. In other words, you don't need to remember it at all....just look into this black glass object for a minute, everything will be fine in a few years.

8. Very true..
I'm in the middle of doing my taxes and that question came up. They want to know how much you received so that they can determine if you will get any money this year, but there is no tax consequence to that money.

Edited on Sun Feb-01-09 09:47 PM by carlyhippy
I don't know why, I was wondering if they may be taxing it or something, or they are checking to see if you got your check or not?
