My octuplet prediction: they are going to find that she went to four+ different doctors.
I'm not sure of this, of course, but we have people saying taht standard practice would be to implant two embryos at the most, and they don't know who the "doctor" is. Maybe she went to four different ones? And didn't tell each one about the others? With the Oprah/Diane Sawyer thing revealed, it seems like she could have a huge plan.

1. I think you're right. One doctor doing 8 implants boggles the mind. nt

2. She wouldn't name who did it because then three other doctors would go "hey wait a minute!"
And the one she named would say that she only got two embryos implanted, not eight. So she's keeping silent, perhaps knowing that the privacy laws protect her from having to reveal who she went to.

It's all speculation, of course.

3. I bet an unscrupulous doctor approached her
with a get rich scheme. It's a long ordeal to get fertility implants, unless she went to four doctors and then had the transplants within a few days. But that's a bucket of money so where'd she get it.

4. That's true, the cost, I didn't think about that.
It would cost 4x as much to pull it off that way. That would be a rate-limiting step to my theory. I didn't know about the length of time it would take, either. I guess what I was thinking was that if someone was manipulative enough to come up with this whole Oprah scheme, they might be manipulative enough to go to 4 doctors.

7. They were frozen embryos, apparently.
I don't know much about the handling and storage of them, but I'm assuming they get stored somewhere apart from any particular doctor she might see about having them implanted. Again, that's just an assumption.

11. Well you've assumed a lot.
And I sincerely doubt she went to four different doctors-that's absurd.

10. She worked at a fertility clinic you know.
My prediction: she had a coworker / friend at the clinic where she worked do this. I doubt a doctor was involved at all. Or if a doctor was involved it was one that she had some inappropriate personal relationship with, not a professional doctor.

12. your body has to be in just the right moment of hormonal balance for a IVF procedure to work
it would be impossible unless there were four doctors lined up in front of her while she was "ripe" for implantation.

13. Thanks for the mini-education on implanted embryos! It would seem to be
impossible that four doctors were involved, yet she got eight implants. Still a mystery...

14. They do implant more than 2 at a time depending
If you go through IVF, the doctor will make a decision based on the quality of your embryos and your reproductive status etc. It's not normal for eight to implant, and some doctors require you to sign something about selectively reducing the number that implant. You couldn't go to more than one doctor, because it doesn't work that way, there is tons of stuff to do before IVF and they'd notice she was already implanted.
