Democrats will never be in a position of such strength again for a long time..

The country, having just ended a period of extreme incompetence in government, elected a Democratic majority to "save the country" from the crazy conservative policies of the past 28 years.

If the Democrats can't pass Universal Health care, Single-Payer, Medicare-For-All and join the rest of the civilized western world, then there will never be a time that it happens....

How much more of a mandate do you need and just how bad does a Republican/Conservative form of government have to fuck things up before meaningful change happens?

1. K&R. This is a time to Be Bold and Get Things Done.

Bipartisanship? Reaching across the aisle? Save it for later. DC Repukes have given President Obama all the cover he needs to say "Hey, I tried"... and then steamroll right the fuck over them.

2. there is not a mandate for single-payer
one candidate in the dem primaries was in favor of single-payer, and he hardly registered when people voted.

I'm in favor of single-payer, and I think it's worth working for, but it's not imminent. I think one of the first things that needs to happen is to elect a president who's committed to it, or at least supports it.

3. and will not get the chance to have this kind of majority again if they screw it up
must. act. now.

Stop playing with the repukes, they will just argue for the sake of arguing. They will fight whatever Obama does not because of their belief system, but because they only define their existence by fighting the dems.

4. If the Dems don't change HAVA & the easily hackable electronic voting machines, it could be a long
Edited on Sat Jan-31-09 05:36 PM by GreenTea
time before the Dems have this much power ever again...

The Democrats can't depend on landslides for every election, the republican written Help America Vote Act (HAVA) of 2002 must be thrown out, stomped on and destroyed forever.

The Dems better have a voting rights act (paper ballots) written & passed BEFORE the republicans can ever take back the house or senate (or presidency) again.

And yes, UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE must be passed before the elections of (Nov.) 2010

5. You do know the Dems did have years to do something
and did nothing other than enable the repubs and fund this occupation and never faught back once. A few did but they did not stand together yet now all of a sudden they are believed to be the best thing since sliced bread of have people suddenly lost their memory.

Why was impeachment off the table , if it had been then perhaps we would not be so deep in the economic collapse and many lives would have been saved.

Now all of a sudden since Obama is president the Dems are some shining light when they are no better than the repubs in resent history.

What else amazes me is all the Hillary bashing that was none stop on this forum but once she was offered the SOS position there is not a peep from the bashers. It seems like Obama could pick almost anyone for any position and this pick would get full support and nothing would be questioned.

Can anyone explain this where it makes any sort of common sense?
