Children 'were basically waterboarded'
AARON KEITH HARRIS
Staff Writer

XENIA — The Caesarscreek Twp. man who used a shock collar and water torture to discipline three of his four children was sentenced to 16 years in prison by Greene County Common Pleas Court Judge J. Timothy Campbell Monday ...

“The only thing you didn’t do was wrap their faces in cheesecloth. They basically were waterboarded,” Campbell said before handing down his sentence, which was far harsher than the 4 years in prison recommended by state probation authorities ...

The abuse allegations came to the attention of investigators .. after Liskany’s 13-year-old son .... walked more than 15 miles to the home of a relative seeking refuge from his father ...

On his own behalf, Liskany told Campbell, “I just want the opportunity to try and be a father. That’s what I was trying to do, be a loving father.”

There seem to have been a lot of these stories in recent years. I'm wondering whether some unbalanced folk haven't been influenced by the not-so-sparkling example that the previous president set: after all, if the president said simulated drowning wasn't torture, then what could be wrong with fake-drowning your kids to teach them a lesson or two? Fortunately, the judge recognized waterboarding as abuse

2. Our previous 'fearless' leader loved torture and as Governor executions.
Previous also blew up frogs in his youth. Teach your children well; lest they learn to abuse everything and everyone including power.

3. I'm afraid that's not the reason,
but that there ALWAYS have been parents who torture. I just heard about such in my (in-law) family, and am still horrified, even tho I'm not in touch with them and it occurred 50+ years ago.

4. I'd bet the UK has records going back to the 13th century to illustrate your point,
but there may be a wide gradation of tendencies to abuse one's children: I imagine most parents have sometimes momentarily imagined strangling a kid, while rather fewer actually ever physically injure them, and only a relative handful exhibit persistent and long term patterns of serious injury. Since behavior is regulated, in part, by social pressures, it seems entirely plausible to me that tendency to injure might be influenced by declarations of public officials, including protestations that such-and-such a behavior is stringent but really harmless

But I think the real interest in the story is the fact that the judge recognizes waterboarding as a criminal attack

Thank god his children are going to get a chance to finish growing up without his violent assaults.

7. Loving father my ass
There is not cruelty or torture associated with love.

The loony churches and their great leader- Bush - set a fine example about what is acceptable behavior.
