Sorry, I was only half listening -- one of Letterman's guests tonight is Mary Hicks. No idea who this is. But the next thing I hear is something about Bill Hicks -- so, I guess Mary Hicks is perhaps connected to Bill?

Bill's entire appearance was censored in 1993. This was several months to a year before he died.

2. Thank you so much! I knew there had to be some major background about this, but I didn't know what.

I didn't own a TV through most of the 70s and 80s. By the early 90s I was struggling to survive in rural Alaska. I was totally unaware of Bill Hicks until years after his death, I only ever heard about him through the internets, which I first plugged into in December 1999.
