So long DU
I've been layed off, and tonight is my last night of work. I don't have the internet at home, so it's so long DU. I've enjoyed my time here, and I wish you all the very best.

Ciao ~ Amber

very very limited there--and it sadly is at most.

59. While at the library, use the time also to read.
Ewan Maccoll, the great Scottish radical folksinger and playwright, was jobless and out of school in 1930(he was fifteen, the standard school-leaving age in the UK if you weren't going on to "university", which at that point you usually weren't if you weren't upper class). After "signing on the broo"(going down to the hiring hall and the relief office each morning to apply for the jobs that weren't there and showing the sanctimonious relief bureaucrats that he was, in fact, trying to get work)Ewan would spend the day at the library, giving himself a much better education than he ever could have received from any college. He went on to sing songs, write songs, and write plays that would help change the world.

Believe that there's hope, and there can be.

Also, you might consider using some of the time to volunteer doing some sort of political or community organizing work. They're always looking for people who can come in and help during daytime hours, and it can be a way to make contacts. If nothing else, it gives you a place to go and something to do each day. In times like these, having a purpose like that can be the difference between life and death.

24. We have to make the internet more accessible
For one thing, losing access to the internet means you have to rely on MSM for news.
It should be considered an essential service, like the telephone.
I hope you'll be back soon.

40. Once upon a time, the Democratic Party offered free Internet
This was way back when, ca. 1998...they called it "FreeDem." It was a very slow dial-up service, but at least it was something.

I still have the application...I saved it as a souvenir. :)

I hope they bring it back. Even a slow, clunky service is better than no service at all.

To the OP: You can get Internet service at most public libraries, free of charge.

35. You can buy old $50.00 computers that work with DU.
My old 1999 iMac still works with DU running outdated OS 9.1. Not as well as my newer one, but if you just want to read or post and forget the videos and fancy graphics, it works fine. A dial-up ISP only costs about $10.00 a month, so why not keep in touch?

the republicans, who caused your job lost are!

Be well, truly sorry this happened to you...We will be doing our best to stifle the fucking greedy corporate assholes, stealing all our money & tax dollars....hopefully with all our effort we can make this less painful and as long as predicted...for all workers and the unemployed as possible....

The selfish greedy republicans CEOs at EXXON just announced they made a QUARTLEY record PROFIT of 45 billion dollars under Bush's last parting quarter...and it was you who got laid off....you did no wrong....but more profits for the greddy republicans to lay you off....but you know all this...and these words won't pay your bills...I truly hope for the best and will do all I can to help bring these bastards to live under regulations to preserve jobs and avoid this bullshit in future decades....Strong unions for a strong middle class.

58. Good luck on getting a new job.
I'm sorry you've become another victim of the system. The best thing you can do is wake up every morning and say "I didn't fail, I didn't deserve this, I deserve to survive and I will". Then find others who do the same and help keep each other going.

The worst thing is getting yourself isolated. That can make it seem hopeless and overwhelming.
