Is Rush Limbaugh the new leader of the GOP?
The Republicans are playing to their conservative base when it is all the GOP has left. The Limbaugh constituency or the radical right wing of the GOP isn't enough to make Republican electable as we saw in November and it's clear that they have no intention of changing or growing.

2010 is looking really good for Democrats.

1. Yes, the GOP is now led by a junkie pedophile
A draft-dodging, misogynistic, racist, flag-waving demagogue.

Wait, I think that's a requirement for membership in the GOP.

I'd like to further suggest that the Democratic Underground needs to extend an olive branch of non-partisanship by enthusiastically endorsing this ticket asap! We could make up bumper snickers and buttons and stuff! Who's with me?

7. yes, and no..
Yes it is being led by Rush. No, it's not because of the various reasons stated.

THIS IS IMPORTANT FOR US TO KNOW:

The reason Rush is in the forefront is because of the lack of leadership by the GOP. For the 94 takeover the GOP had Gingrich and Armey leading, and Rush played his supporting role. Rush would have done that again, but the GOP is in disarray. Rush has fallen into the leadership role.

On the one hand, Rush is a good orator, on the other hand, he is a hypocrite and doesn't hold office.

The problem here is that Obama is making a mistake addressing him. All of the leaders need to ignore him totally.

9. I agree...
it's a mistake for Obama to address Limbaugh. On the other hand, the voters spoke their feelings in the November election. If Limbaugh is the best the GOP has, then it's clear the Republicans are in big trouble.

Yes, they are in disarray and flailing. They are failing their true constituents but I suspect they believe that like in the early Clinton years, if they completely vote against everything Obama does, that they can point to the Obama presidency and say it's a failed presidency. During midterms, this strategy worked for the GOP and we have to make sure that doesn't happen this time.

11. their only concern is to get re-elected
they don't care about the truth. The only thing they care about is money and getting re-elected. The mistake for the GOP is that they haven't noticed that in November, the nation spoke its' collective mind and even though the GOp is in terrible shape, mostly due to their rabid radical right, they have decided that instead of trying to change and become more moderate in response to a changing nation, they should become even more conservative. So they are embracing Limbaugh like he's their new savior. It just shows how weak they are.

18. yup, he's the leader of the rushicans
One of the, perhaps unintended, results of the 2006 mid term and 2008 elections is many "moderate" repubs were ousted - those remaining are on the far-right to the rabid far-right. It shouldn't be surprising that rush is now the "unoffical leader".

Looking at various statements of the "rushicans" and comparing it to rush's statements - the frame, the spin and sputtering are extremely identical.

The rushicans are trying to hang on to their tiny base, it's all they have left - so they continue in the same mode of offering either tax cuts or dropping bombs as the solution to everything.

Instead of looking where they've been, where they are now and where to go next - they have entrenched themselves in the same foxhole full of crap. The only thing that may "save" them from losing more seats in 2010-midterms are the Dems in congress who are unable to effectively control the message and frame the issues.

Whether rush spins it as hoping Obama fails or hoping Obama's policies fail - result is the same - we all fail, including rush, his dittoheads and the rushicans.
