Thom Hartmann listeners: I have a question for you!
In the last year can any of you remember Thom Hartmann mentioning that the reason that income taxes on US corporations were kept so high (before W that is) was to prevent these corporations from BECOMING so big, so powerful, so wealthy, that they couldn't afford to do very much lobbying.

Does anyone remember hearing Thom Hartmann saying that or did I hear this from someplace else?

1. I don't recall him saying anything like that
I've heard him discuss several times how high marginal tax rates coincided with high growth. The reason being that business owners would invest back in their business rather than pay the taxes. When they started lowering the taxes back in the 60s, the incentive to reinvest decreased.

2. I have heard him say that corporations should not be so big that they cannot fail.

Also, too much money is concentrated in too few hands.

I have not heard ANYTHING about lobbying with respect to corporation size.

Why don't you send him an e-mail.

3. I listen to Thom.
Don't recall a statement that the pre-Reagan tax rate was high intentionally for the purpose you ascribe to it, to prevent lobbying.

Why don't you go to Thom's website or to Air America Radio and ask?
