I can't take it any more.

I'm going to have to limit the time I spend on DU. There is so much stuff that's depressing. Such as all the layoffs, etc. I know these things are happening, but all the depressing economic stuff brings me down.

Anybody else ever feel like this?

2. I know what you mean...
It's really hard when you're informed, and the information is hard/sad/depressing.... hugs and peace to you. It is a good idea to get away from it, go spend time with people you love, get outside, etc....

3. Yes...
I've seen repeated posts about people being exhausted from worrying about the economy.

I know how you feel. There are times that I need to pay attention, read articles and
research--because I feel more in control if I'm fully aware of the reality. However,
there are times that I just have to step away and ignore it all.

It's difficult--because the entire economy is crumbling. We all exist on its foundation,
and when it crumbles--and there's nothing you can do about it--it can really be upsetting.

The best thing to do is...be prepared, as best you can, in your own little corner of the
world. Do what you have to do, to insulate yourself as best you can. That might mean
taking $20 out of every paycheck and putting it in an envelope, or stocking up when
you see peanut butter on sale. Whatever helps you. Just my 2 cents...for what it's worth.

Believe me, many understand how you feel--and are feeling the same fatigue.

The past few days, especially. I'm trying to tell myself not to fear, but to be honest I'm so angry at what Bush has done it scares me. I think the Republican Party is the largest terrorist organization on the planet. I knew this would happen several years ago because like many here, I've kept a close eye on what the Republicans were doing. They've not only fucked up our economy, but the entire Global economy with their greed. I saw this before in the 1980's, but they've outdone themselves this time around. Fucking greedy, war-mongering, torture-loving, selfish, arrogant pigs.

5. Yep. It's happening at my work, too.
At best, I will make considerably less than in 2008. At worse, I could lose my job. Not sure what steps are coming, but will know more by mid-February.

I don't know what people who lose their jobs are going to do. There aren't any out there. I'm in my late 50s, so I will hang on tenaciously to this one. I really feel for those who reaping what was sown during the Bush years.

7. what's hardest for me....
the stories of husband, father, killing his family and himself. like the husband and wife who lost their jobs last week and killed their five kids, all under the age of 10 and then themselves!!??!! wtf. the kids didn't stand a chance!! it's bullshit to be so damned selfish. if you want to take your own life, fine... but why do you have to take other people with you!!! it just breaks my heart. we've been through rough times. we've struggled, and still do today. I may personally have thought about ending my own life, but I would never want to hurt my kids!! they deserve to have their chance!!! and no, i am not going to hurt myself. i suffer from depression for which i take medicine to help me cope.

9. Every damn day. Sit down, strap in, and hang on, we've got
another year of this shit in front of us. It's just going to take that long to start straightening it out. But, if it works out, and there is no reason to believe that it won't, there will be several decades of responsible government, well regulated markets, and environmental repair in our future. Remember help is not just on the way now, it is sitting in the Oval Office as we speak. Don't exptect to get the same "fuck you" from your government that we have been getting for the last eight years.

11. Pretty much every day.
I know how you feel. I have a hard time getting away from the news because I don't like to be uninformed, but at the same time all the shit, the economy, Gaza, war criminals getting away with it, etc...it gets to be too much.

I don't think there's anything wrong with saying you're going to limit your time on DU, or watching the news, or what have you. I think that's very healthy. Take a break before you snap.

12. I've taken breaks from DU from time to time.
As bad as thing REALLY are sometimes the echo chamber can make things seem even MORE dire than they already are.

Take a break spend a little time IRL and come back with some fresh perspective.

Why not? It couldn't hurt.

14. Most of us knew it would get worse before it got better.

There is probably a lot more bad news that has yet to come to the surface
because the corrupt and evil BushCo Regime swept so much under the rug.

16. yes, a little. But people are here to share and get support and
give support. So in that, I find something positive. There has been a lot of sadness here lately. People are suffering and if we can help each other - then everyone wins.

It's also healthy to take a break if it's affecting you too much - it's smart if you feel that way. Or start posting the sort of thing that you want to see that you're not seeing and it can be contagious. : )

If its getting you down, take a break. Its reasonable. But don't forget to come back!!!!

: )

It's not just DU , it's every device that you turn on that always has some more bad news and even if you switch these things off you see it just walking down the street and see people who you know are out on the street who lost the battle. You see stores boarded up and businessess closed down.

No job seems secure.

19. Yeah, I know it's not just DU.
"even if you switch these things off you see it just walking down the street and see people who you know are out on the street who lost the battle. You see stores boarded up and businessess closed down. "

Other than some suggestions other posters have already made, I'm going to try this:

Read more silly books

Watch more silly DVDs (Gilligan's Island is a great choice.)

Read/watch less newsy stuff.

Generally, try not to think so much! ( :silly: but I mean it.)

20. Over the past 8 years, I had to take regular breaks...
About every three months, I had to take a week off from the news, DU, and the blogs I regularly read. I think it's normal to need a break every now and then when life gets hard...especially when you find yourself stressing over things you can't change.

Take some time off and come back when you're ready.
