Interactive Map: Job Losses Increase in a Majority of States

Job losses are mounting in states around the nation. The economy has shed 1.9 million jobs over the past four months—the largest four-month loss in over three decades—and the unemployment rate has spiked to 7.2 percent. What’s more, December’s unemployment rate was above 7 percent in 21 out of 50 states and in the District of Columbia, as shown in the map below.

1. I didn't know Rhode Island hit 10% too

I think there will be a number of states that join the double digit unemployment club soon.

2. I think many of them are already double-digit

Remember, they play games with the figures. There is NO way Georgia is only at 8.1 per cent.

3. Yeah, the numbers are misleading

Michigan is probably closer to 20%. I've graduated from college and haven't been able to find a job. I'm not collecting unemployment so I'm not included in those numbers. There are many that aren't being counted.
