McConnell: Bush was a ‘burden’ on my party.»
McConnell: Bush was a ‘burden’ on my party.»

Despite steadfastly supporting President Bush’s policies every step of the way, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) revealed today how he really felt about Bush. Interviewed on NBC’s Today Show this morning, McConnell said Bush was a “burden” on the Republican party:

Q: How does this party turn itself around?

McCONNELL: Well, I was a strong supporter of the President, but presidential unpopularity is bad for the president’s party. We suffered losses in 06 and 08. We wish President Bush well. But frankly, we will not have to be carrying that sort of political burden that we carried the last two elections.

3. It wasn't just Bush, it was the whole
Neocon nation-building, government-by-theology, laissez faire, supply side trickle down philosophy. If McConnell figures that they'll recover just because Bush is back in Texas, good for us!

5. Democrats have sort of dug themselves into a hole by blaming only Bush*
This is a Republican created crisis and not Bush*. virtually everything that has happened has been Republican created and Bush* has just been the leader of their Party but it isn't bush*'s fault, it is Republican's. Republicans are going to try and use the Blame Game to get themselves out of the spotlight and we need to nip it in the bud. We can't let them get away with placing all the blame on the "Torture pResident"

8. As if Bush's unpopularity arose from the ether.

Bush is hated because of his policies-- the same ideas all conservatives push. He had the bad fortune to be the one running the shell game when Reagan's economic scam finally collapsed, but there's nothing special about GW Bush.

12. You sure it's safe to say that, Mitch?
The Bush family has a long reach and an even longer memory for slights, real and imagined. Be extra careful if you decide to fly back to Kentucky; know your pilot, know your ground crew, and know your plane.

Of course, if this is how you really felt during the three or four years, why didn't you remove your nose from Bush's sphincter when it might have done some good for the country? Why is it only when the taint of Bush has damaged your party that you're finally voicing regrets about the "burden" the Bush administration has been?

Oh yeah, there's one more thing. I almost forgot: Fuck you, Mitch.

14. I must say...
It's certainly fun watching these delusional assholes try to doublethink their way out of what they've done and where they stand.

More fun than watching them run the country into the ground, at least.
