Obama offers his hand to the Repukes, they offer their middle finger.
Edited on Tue Jan-27-09 12:35 PM by bushmeister0
AP:

"Hours before a meeting with President Barack Obama, House Republican leaders sought to rally opposition Tuesday to a White House-backed economic stimulus measure with an $825 billion price tag.

Several officials said that Reps. John Boehner of Ohio, the GOP leader, and Eric Cantor of Virginia, his second-in-command, delivered the appeal at a closed-door meeting of the Republican rank and file . . .

The request for opposition came one day after Obama extended Republicans an olive branch, appealing to House Democrats to jettison an estimated $200 million ticketed for family planning services for low-income people . . . "

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/obama_economy

So Obama is trying to be Mr. Post-partisan by meeting with these fuckheads and they're busy urging opposition in closed door meetings before they've even met with him.

From what I understand they have, like, NO POWER to do anything to stop Obama's stimulus bill, so let's get on with it already without them . . . and put the family planning money back in while we're at it.

More:

"Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., said in a televised interview that Obama was having problems with Democrats, whom he said favor spending over tax cuts as a remedy for the economic crisis.

'We think the country needs a stimulus,' he said on NBC's 'Today' show. But he also said that he believes most people do not believe it will be accomplished through projects like 'fixing up the mall,' a reference to fundings to repair the National Mall in Washington. He said Republicans want a bill that devotes 40 percent of its cost to tax cuts."

Yes, because the that money can be so much better spent by giving it to the rich. And the National Mall is such great shape, anyway. Now, if Obama would only listen to Grover Norquist and get that Reagen memorial project going, then maybe McConnel might see the sense in fixing up the National Mall, which BTW is a freaking disgrace.

Assholes!

1. President Obama will soon learn that all his good will and calls for bipartisanship
Edited on Tue Jan-27-09 12:38 PM by Liberal_Stalwart71
are all for naught. The Republicans never cared about the economy, about hard-working Americans. All they care about is themselves and their rich, corporate friends. They want Obama to fail so that they can then turn around and point the finger at government. I hope that our dear president will wake up and realize what he is dealing with. These aren't moderate Republicans that he encountered in the Illinois State Senate. These are far right wing ideologues who will never change, will NEVER compromise their principles of greed and hording wealth. I hope that he learns that before it's too late. Bipartisanship DOES NOT mean appeasing the Republicans and begging them to cooperate. THEY WILL NEVER COOPERATE!!!

Please wake up, President Obama!!!

3. My opinion is that He knows this is a waste of time in......
the short term but Obama plays chess 3 steps ahead. I think He is setting them up as baseless obstructionist that are out of touch with the people and is going to shine the light brightly on the cockroaches.
Then again, maybe I'm an optimist.

13. That's the way I see it
I think most people are stuck in the old way of doing things. That hasn't worked out too well for us in he past.

I definately think he's playing chess.

5. Give Hourly Television Updates
on how the Republicans are destroying what is left of the economy and give facts. Show the country what assholes they are, in case they somehow missed it. Commercial bombardment with requests to call your legislators to ask for their help in stopping the economic crisis. We have to pull out the stops and turn this thing around and fast.

Like we should listen to the very people who put us in this mess in the first place. So many Americans are just fucking ignorant. The sales of large cars and SUVs started to increase after a few short months of gas below $2 a gallon. How long do they expect that to continue?

End of story.

Nice idea, though.

or injecting their blood.

The duck cannot find a job anywhere so I will continue to support him/her/it.

18. I agree
Republicans are standing firm on the same things that got a lot of them booted out of office. Obama's giving them rope to hang themselves with.

10. That's basically what FDR did, though, he had the southern democrats
to deal with, who were in many cases way worse.

Since OB's got none of that sort of trouble, I say screw 'em! I doubt it will be such a tough slog in the Senate, either.

Where the hell is Al Frankin, anyway?

14. Obama refused to put more tax cuts in the stimulus.
Obama is smart enough to not give away the store. He met with the Repubs, they demanded more tax cuts, Obama refused. Now Obama gets to fire up the steamroller.
