What ever happened to MediaWhoresonline?
Does anyone know why MWO went dark? I have missed that site so much since it disappeared. Anyone know any inside scoop on who the writers/operators were? I always imagined they were media insiders who had good access to inside info. Isn't that where Chris Matthews' nickname "Tweetie" was revealed? As I recall, it was what his staff called him behind his back due to his ever-yellowing hair.
God, I miss the Horse!! Anyone know anything?

1. The guy who ran it died.
I think. He never did anything else. Maybe he was killed.

8. I thought it was a woman who ran it. Jenny something
It was a good resource, but turned the word "whore" into too much of a cliche.

10. I thought it was one or two women, too.
And I think I remember the name Jenny or Jennifer something. The rumor was that she/they were political operatives who had to give it up due to too much work and too much risk of trouble if they were discovered.

3. It's been gone for five ears and lamented on DU many times
but I have never heard one hint about who was behind it, why they quit and what they are doing now.

Probably somebody working for one of the networks who was co-opted by getting a big promotion. Like David Gregory. Or Chuckie Todd.

5. That wouldn't have done it
but there were hints of overwork from the site owner before the site died before its time.

7. It died and then Media Matters popped up a few months later.
Coincidence?

9. The founder traded up
At least, that was the rumor. The site author successfully maintained her anonymity through the run of the blog, and the story among folks in the know is that the author was a low-level political operative whose employer moved up a substantial step on the food chain in 2004 or 2005. As such, the author was placed in a much more visible position, and she deemed herself too vulnerable to embarrassing her boss should her identity become known. It was at that time that the Horse was put out to pasture.

A shame, too, as the author had the unparalleled perspicacity to run a submission or two from yours truly during its run.

11. I remember their motto:
"The site that set out to bring the media to their knees,
but found they were already there."
