2. They've been around longer than most of these banks and other failed businesses getting bailouts
Harley Davidson is an American Institution, they've been around for 105 years...

What's the problem?

3. What a pile of crap. The Harlies are, but so is their begging.
They got the govmint to impose trade tariffs on Japanese bike mfrs back in the seventies so they could stay in business in the face of tanking sales, and now they're at it again. If they can't compete, scruem. Yamaha, Victory, and Honda et al make better bikes anyway.

4. Not that I support bailing out these businesses...
but the problem is obviously nobody is spending any money and scared shitless in this economy. And when they are considering making a significant purchase, the credit market is so tight they can't get financing. Companies in just about every sector are laying off people left and right.

The problem is that the republicans, with the help of the democrats, have evolved our economy into one that is so dependent on consumer spending that any interruption is devastating. That's why after 9/11, the Bush administration's best advice to the public was get duct tape and go shopping.

8. Jap bikes rule......
Mine is a '83 Yamaha, I've never owned a Harley, but have had many superfast and travelling bikes over the years. To most serious, and I stress Most, Harlies are not too good. You can build one, I am told, from the parts that fall off them on the way to Sturgis.

10. What is wrong with asking for a government sponsered loan?
I don't see any problem with it, as long as it gets paid back.
