27. Dr. Drew of "Celebrity Rehab" (with "Grease's" Jeff Conway) said

that what doctor Phil is doing is very dangerous.

According to Dr. Drew, Dr. Phil is not a real doctor, although he can be called one (loosely) because he has a doctorate in psychology. Dr. Phil McGraw is a psychologist, but not a psychiatrist.

Psychiatrists are medical doctors and have more intense training. They have to go through undergrad and medical school followed up by a residence in psychiatry.

Phil did the easiest of the two, but still bills himself as a "doctor" and it irks Dr. Drew Pinsky who did it the hard way and really is an MD (did 10yrs internship in the ER), and has a full practice in L.A., California outside "Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew".

I've seen "Dr." Phil once, and I can't say it was enjoyable. Never watched that Texas blowhard again.

He is a staff member at Huntington Memorial Hospital, continues to run a private medicine practice and is Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the Keck USC School of medicine. His membership and activities in professional societies include the American College of Physicians, the American Medical Association, the American Society of Addiction Medicine, the California Medical Association and the American Society of Internal Medicine.

31. I have a lot of respect for Dr. Drew

Although I wince at a lot of Celebrity Rehab, I have to admit that the show probably makes a lot of people using drugs think twice about whether or not their behavior constitutes addiction. It probably also makes a lot of us (me included) think twice before they make the decision to even USE drugs. Not to mention the number of relatives of drug addicts that it convinces to take action to get their loved ones help.
